Himalayan Festival Tour/Trekking In Upper Mustang Area, Nepal

Religion plays a central role in the life of Upper Mustang¡¦s people. Festivals like Loshar (Tibetan New Year, Jan/Feb), Saga Lugka rites for timely rains and a good harvest, Feb/March or Duk Chu (monks¡¦ dance and prayers for a prosperous next year, Nov/Dec) structure the passing seasons. On various occasions, Lamas are called to perform rites in individual houses. The custom and mask dances of the famous three-days Tenji festival takes place in front of the King¡¦s Palace in April/May and on a more modest scale inside Chhodhe Gompa in May/June. They are meant to bring prosperity to Lo Tsho Dhun and the entire world.
