  • 2. Clothing for day / sun / hot weather
  • The best fabric material is polyester or spandex lycra, due to their hydrophobic properties they don't absorb moisture appreciably and dry fast, this favours body's refrigeration making evaporation easier.
  • Nylon and cotton are hydrophilic, absorb and retain moisture, and dry slowly, do not evaporate fast so body's refrigeration takes longer.
  • Clothes must fit loose and light colours block solar radiation better and absorb less heat.
  • Colours blues, green and beige provide better protection against UV radiation.
  • Recommended garments:
  • a. Cargo type pants with removable legs
  • b. Socks
  • c. Underwear
  • d. Shirts or t-shirts, short or long sleeve according with you tolerance against the sun. Cycling jerseys are an excellent option.
  • e. Swim suit
  • f. Cycling shorts
  • g. Bandana or headband
  • Clothing for night / cold weather
  • The progressive layering approach is recommended to keep comfortably warm, control the optimum temperature and avoid excessive dangerous sweat.
  • Wearing sweat dampened and cold clothes would lead to hypothermia.
  • Correct progressive layering thermal insulation:
  • 1st layer: Light polyester clothes: shirt and shorts for day hot weather
  • When temperatures starts to drop, put on the windshield jacket and pants over the 1st layer.
  • If temperatures cools more, put on a thermal shirt over the polyester one and the windshield jacket back on.
  • If temperature declines even more, put on a thermal pant over the shorts and the windshield pant back on.
  • And pull on the warm hat, gloves and 2 or 3 layers of socks.
