Tour Itinerary
Leaving Glasgow we travel through stunning woodland scenery to the village of ABERFOYLE. Sir Walter Scott's poem, 'THE LADY OF LAKE' attracted so many tourists to the area that the DUKE OF MONTROSE had to build a road north from Aberfoyle, which winds through the gap in the hills and became known as 'THE DUKE'S PASS'.
After a stop for refreshments and photos, offering us wonderful panoramic scenery, we continue north, through the narrow PASS OF LENY, and into THE TROSSACHS, gateway to the Highlands. Beyond the scenic beauty of STRATHYRE, time permitting, we can make a short diversion to Balquidder, to see ROB ROY'S GRAVE.
After the delights of LOCH EARN and STRATHEARN VALLEY, we'll stop for lunch in CRIEFF, at SCOTLAND'S OLDEST DISTILLERY, GLENTURRET, dating back to 1775. Afterwards we can enjoy THE FAMOUS GROUSE EXPERIENCE TOUR - with time for a taste of Scotland's favourite whisky!
We'll commence our descent via the historic hamlet of DOUNE, home to fascinating 14th Century DOUNE CASTLE, once occupied by Jacobite soldiers, and more recently, the setting for the comedy film Monty Python & The Holy Grail.
After a photo stop, we'll continue south to the city of STIRLING: rich in legends and historical events, with its imposing CASTLE and historic links to WILLIAM WALLACE and ROBERT THE BRUCE. We'll stop to walk and explore - if we have time, we'll take a trip to view the WALLACE MONUMENT before returning to Glasgow.
