Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Little Karoo, Route 62, Oudtshoorn
Driving inland this morning from Cape Town, our journey takes us north through rolling wheat fields
to the Langeberg Mountains and on to the pristine semi-desert environment of the Little Karoo.
Known as the ostrich capital of the world, Oudtshoorn is situated in a beautiful valley between the
Outeniqua and Swartberg Mountains. Here there is an option to view and ride one of these
prehistoric birds on a working farm.
We make our way to the magnificent Cango Caves. Here we'll embark on a 1-hour guided tour of the
cave system to view its massive caverns and a wonderland of stalactite and stalagmite formations,
millions of years old. Cango Caves is a world heritage site and one of the great wonders of the
natural world.
Day 2: Oudshoorn - Jeffrey's Bay, Outeniqua Pass, Garden Route, Tsitsikamma
Up early this morning, we embark on a guided tour of the Cango Endangered Wildlife Ranch for an
opportunity to pet cheetah, cage dive with crocodiles and view many rare and endangered animal
species.
After our visit, we leave the Karoo and travel 60km to the coast through the magnificent Outeniqua
Pass. Entering the Garden Route for the first time in George and take a leisurely drive up the coast to
Knysna, rated South Africa's most beautiful town. Here we'll take a walk to the entrance of the
lagoon to explore the captivating scenery surrounding the famous Knysna Heads.
In the afternoon we drive to the highest road bridge in Africa at Bloukrans Bridge. At a height of
216m this is also the site of the highest bungy jump in the world! For those wishing to take the leap,
this is your opportunity!
We then head for the pristine beaches of Jeffrey's Bay!
Day 3 : Jeffreys Bay - Grahamstown, Frontier Country, forts, Rhodes University
We begin the day with a drive to Grahamstown where we visit an old fort, Rhodes
University, have a walking tour of the town, go on a tour of a Rhino farm and end the
day off with a ghost and pub tour!
A hauntingly beautiful region - arguably the crucible of South African history - Frontier
Country is a vibrant mix of all the best that Africa has to offer. One of the premier tourist
routes in the Eastern Cape, it has a turbulent past, with more forts than the rest of the
country combined. It is also one of the most diverse ecological regions in South Africa,
with a variety of biomes that provide unspoilt and spectacular scenery. Thousands of
hectares are devoted to nature and game conservation, bringing with them the return of
great herds of wildlife to the places where they once roamed freely.
Day 4: Grahamstown to Hogsback - Amatola Mountains, Tolkein Country
Today we head to Hogsback in the Amatola Mountains where we go for a hike to the
waterfalls through a spectacular forest that is believed to have been the inspiration for
"The Hobbit". This perfectly located and very relaxed backpackers commands a stunning
view of the Hogsback mountains. It's an ideal place to kick back and relax, or wander
through the forest to the nearby waterfalls with beautiful hiking trails starting in the back
garden.
We then visit the largest labyrinth in the Southern Hemisphere. Hogsback is home to one
of the world's largest labyrinths. It has eleven circuits, with a circumference of over 90
metres and a pathway of 700 metres, and is similar in design to the one at Chartres,
France.
Day 5 & 6: Hogsback to Coffee Bay - Transkei, Wild Coast
We make our way through the Transkei, home of the Xhosa to Coffee Bay. This is where
we spend the next 2 days. Here you have the chance to go for a top class surf lesson,
enjoy an adventure tour of the local area and even an absolutely unique experience to
spend the night with a local family in a traditional Xhosa mud hut!
* This is where the 1 way tour ends, you can either stay on in Coffee Bay longer or carry on with
your journey up the coast!
Day 7: Coffee Bay to Chintsa - Nelson Mandela's village
This morning we have a once in a lifetime chance to visit Nelson Mandela's home village
and museum. We then drive down the coast to the paradise on earth that is Chintsa. In
the afternoon you have the opportunity to go on a sunset beach horse ride.
Day 8: Chintsa to Addo - Beaches, Sunshine Coast, Sundays River Valley
After plenty of beach time in the morning we head along the Sunshine coast past the
many holiday towns towards Addo and our accommodation for the night, in the Sundays
River Valley. Set in a wild and scenic location on the banks of the Sundays River, we
take the time to relax under the African sun as well as explore the river by canoe.
Around the campfire tonight, this is what you've come to experience… Wild Africa at her
enigmatic best!
Day 9: Addo to Jeffreys Bay
With an early rise, we embark on an unforgettable journey in search of the BIG 5 in
Addo National Park.
Proclaimed a National Park in 1931, this malaria free, 145 000 ha. Park, extends all the
way down to the Indian Ocean and is home to the densest African Elephant population
on earth, totalling over 500 elephant.
After lunch in the park we head to Port Elizabeth if anyone needs to be dropped off here.
A major sea port and tourist destination, Port Elizabeth is set along the beautiful shores
of Algoa Bay and is fondly referred to as the Friendly City. We then head for the pristine
beaches of Jeffrey's Bay! Renowned the world over as one of the best surfing waves on
the planet, we'll take time out to view the waves at "supertubes" before exploring the
town and visiting the ever-popular surf wear factory With the afternoon at leisure you
can have a surf lesson, a beach horse ride, OR shopping at the surf factory shops.
Day 10: The Crags Elephant Sanctuary & Monkeyland, Sedgefield
This morning we begin our relaxing journey back to Cape Town with our first stop for the
day at the Crags Orphaned Elephant Sanctuary for a truly wonderful close encounter
experience. Here you have an opportunity to walk, feed and ride an African elephant
while receiving instruction from a knowledgeable African guide.
After the Sanctuary we continue down the Garden Route, We stop in Plettenberg Bay
where you have a chance to go sea kayaking before we continue to Sedgefield. We
arrive at our accommodation overlooking the sea at Myoli Beach in Sedgefield. Situated
right on the beach and close to the Swartvlei Lagoon, here are loads of water sports and
other activities to partake in including playing sports with underprivileged kids (during
school terms only) for the remainder of the afternoon before a delicious dinner.
Day 11: Sedgefield to Cape Town - Return to Cape Town via Sir Lowry's Pass
This morning we visit a local Farmers and Craft market in Sedgefield before we stop at
an Aloe Factory in Albertinia. From here its back to Cape Town with scenic drive via
Swellendam and Sir Lowry's Pass, arriving in the late afternoon.
