Tour Itinerary
From 1936 to 1939 Spain tore itself apart. The Spanish Civil War has often been called the first battle of WWII: a generation of young men and women from around the world came to fight to save or to overthrow the Second Spanish Republic in a struggle that drew in Hitler, Stalin and Mussolini. The conflict was the stage for incredible acts of bravery and brutality on a scale the world had never seen before. The physical scars are visible today and the psychological wounds still plague modern Spain. Right at the heart of it all, the Battle of Madrid was the longest and most important of the whole war, testimony to the resilience of the madrileños and the belief in victory on both sides.
Join us on this 2½ hour tour where you'll discover why the country ripped itself apart in the 1930's and see the battle scars for yourself. Like all wars the Spanish Civil War showed us the best and worst of mankind producing heroes and villains on both sides. We'll cover it all, bringing the characters to life as we tell you the incredible story of the battle for Madrid, whilst walking through the city and beautiful parks that were once bloody battlefields. Find out how the war was won, how that victory changed the world and how its consequences still echo through Madrid's streets today.
