Tour Itinerary
From Bangkok, it's a beautiful 68-mile (109-km) drive to Samut Songkram province for a glimpse at the timeless lifestyle of Thais who live along the canals at bustling Damnoen Saduak. Even though they live on the water, they are farmers in a naturally fertile area, using the canal for water to irrigate and as transportation. Cruise through the scenic canals on your way to the floating market-the best known destination in Rachaburi. Here, boats fill the canal with wares and farm-fresh produce from the fertile Thai soil.
Travel on from your floating market shopping spree, and visit a Royal Thai Handicraft Village followed by a Thai set-menu lunch.
Your journey continues with a stop at the JEATH War Museum. Created to present the history of the "Death Railway," the museum offers an unbiased account of the railway's past. The railway was ordered by the Imperial Japanese Army to be built by prisoners of war and Asian laborers, and many of the workers lost their lives due to horrific living conditions. Begun in 1942, the railway ran over 250 miles (402 km) at its completion.
Move down the Maeklong River until you reach the bridge on the River Kwai, known well by a movie of the same name. The black iron and concrete bridge, also constructed by the prisoners of war, still stands today. A solemn reminder of the atrocities of war that still reverberate today.
The last stop of your day is to the Tiger Temple where you can see these majestic animals that are being cared for by the monks in order to ensure the survival of the species.
