Tour Itinerary

Minburi is where the city and countryside collide to create a world of canals, ricefields and cottage industries. It is a place where Muslims and Buddhists live as they have for centuries alongside klongs. The San Saeb Canal, or Klong San Saeb, is one of Bangkok's most important waterways as it connects Bangkok's two main rivers, the Bangprakong and Chao Phyraya. Our ride starts at the hub of the local Muslim community, where the local people are direct descendants of the Thai Southern Thai Muslims invited by King Rama III two-centuries ago to defend the capital from Khmer invaders to the east seeking to invade Bangkok using the canals.

What Will we see?
Our one day tour takes you out of Bangkok and back into the Thailand of old. A land of gentle river boats, laughing children, rice fields, green tropical landscapes and temple after temple! Visit the bizarre temple of Phurt Udom Pol, Kamalulislam mosque and the market town of Nong Chok. You visit a local women's cooperative, fish farms, working rice mills, traditional Thai wooden houses and an old medicine shop. You also get a close-up view of Thai village life. This is as real as it gets. No other tourists come out here!

What is the riding like?
The ride is a gentle forty kilometers along canal paths, and wide dirt roads passing through paddy fields.

Anything else?
Lunch is typical Thai noodles served at a local restaurant and the ride ends with a boat ride* down the San Saeb canal before driving back to Bangkok.

Of course,
water, soft drinks and snacks are all included all day and SpiceRoads supplies a TREK mountain bike and helmet. The trip is fully supported by our air conditioned minibus, fully equipped with a two-way radio and Thule bike rack.
