Tour Itinerary

The one Day Tour

This tour is a whole day tour of Badaling Great Wall and Ming Tombs.

Badaling is located at Yanqing County, more than 80 km northwest from the downtown Beijing. It became a very important military strategic place since the Spring and Autumn Period (770 BC - 476 BC) and the Warring States Period (476 BC - 221 BC). Many incomplete parts of the wall were proved to be built in the Warring States Period.

With its total length of 3, 741 meters with an average height of 7.8 meters and the highest part is 15 meters, this section of the Great Wall was made by huge bar stones. Some of the stones have a height of two meters with a weight of 500kg.

Badaling was the earliest section to be open to the tourists among all the parts of the whole Great Wall. The top of the Wall provides a general view of the surroundings. Watchtowers are seen on the mountains south and north. The Great Wall threads its way through a jumble of mountains like a giant dragon.

Ming Tombs are located about 31 miles from Beijing with 13 emperors of the Ming Dynasty buried here. The tomb was originally built only as Changling, the tomb of Emperor Zhuli and his empresses. This is the most magnificent of the tombs. The succeeding twelve emperors had their tombs built around Changling.

Only the Changling and Dingling tombs are open to the public. Changling, the chief of the Ming Tombs, is the largest in scale and is completely preserved. The total internal area of the main building is 1956 square meters. The ceiling is colorfully painted and supported by sixteen solid camphor posts. The floor was decorated with gold bricks.

Unlike Changling, Dingling is underground and about 28 meters in depth. The entire palace is made of stone. The Soul Tower in the palace is the symbolic of the whole of Dingling and it forms the entrance to the underground rooms. The yellow glazed tiles; eaves, archway, rafters and columns are all sculptured from stone, and painted colorfully The entire construction is stable and beautiful...

It takes about one and half hour to get the Wall by tour bus (with air-conditioning).
