Tour Itinerary

Highlights:

We will start the tour with a visit to Suzhou, one of the oldest towns in the Yangtze Basin (founded around 600 BC during the Spring and Autumn period by the kingdom of Wu) and the rare city to have survived the Cultural Revolution with its ancient relics entirely intact. We will tour the Master of Nets Garden - the most famous of the gentle private gardens in the city, and take a walk along the Panmen Ancient City Wall, its oldest (and unmodified) section dating all the way back to 514 B.C., truly the very first wall that enclosed the city. A trip to the banks of the Grand Canal - originally constructed 1,500 years ago in the Sui dynasty and is the oldest and longest man made canal in the world - will be followed by a stop at the local Silk Factory.

After lunch we will leave Suzhou for Zhouzhuang, a water village only opened to the outside in recent years. All of the town's buildings date from imperial days, with some as early as 900 years ago. Its waterlanes (instead of roads) and boats (transportation) are the main attractions. And we will arrange for you to ride in one the boats around town; though remember to duck when passing under the many stone bridges connecting the blocks of houses. Back to Shanghai after sightseeing.
