Tour ItineraryHighlights:
After pick up from your hotel or accomodation, we will begin the tour with a visit to Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Memorial Hall. (Dr. Sun Yat-sen is considered the main architect for the Chinese revolution) Built in the republic era, and renovated in the 1950s, the hall is one of the most important landmarks in the entire province.
Our next destination is the Chen Clan Academy/Temple. Built in the 1890s, the complex is comprised of 19 buildings interspersed by courtyards, verandas, grand halls and elegant gardens. It is known for its great variety of decorations, such as intricate woodcarvings, brick and stone carvings, ceramic sculptures, iron castings and paintings. These artistic decorations cover a wide range of subjects, from Chinese legends and historical stories, to ornately-carved birds, animals, and flowers.
We will then move on to the Six Banyan Trees Temple. (who received its name in 1,100 AD from one of the most famous Song dynasty poet, Su Dongpo) The 17-storey Hua Ta Pagoda sits on its grounds, its steep staircases and the hundreds of finely carved miniature Buddhas on its wooden eaves made it the most popular attraction in the entire temple complex.
After a lunch featuring the best of the famed Cantonese cusine, we will move on to the Xiguan Residences, built by rich merchant families during the late-Qing early-republic period and intended as guest houses or summer retreats. See if you can spot the "proto-western" influences in its decorations.
We will finish the tour with a shopping spree in the Shopping Streets, a wildly popular spot for bargain hunters, curioso collectors, wholesale merchants and specialty product buyers.
