Tour Itinerary

Highlights:

(we will take into account the visitor's preferences when determining the time to spend at one location, below for reference only)

After pick up from your hotel or accomodation, we will head out directly to the main attraction of the day - the legendary West Lake. The Muse of many a romantic soul, (if you are even a tiny bit familiar with Chinese classic literature) the West Lake and its dreamy landscape has been the object of admiration in thousands of poems and proses. We will leave it to you to discover (with the assistance of our guide) its fickle beauty.

Our next destination is the Six Harmonies Pagoda. Originally built in the Northern Song dynasty, the pagoda was reconstructed and further refurbished from the Souther Song all the way down to the Qing dynasties, spanning more than a millenium. Climbing up the (rather steep) stairs all the way to the top is the must for most visitors as the top floor affords a magnificent view of the nearby Qiangtang river (famous for its annual rapid tidal rise).

After a hearty lunch we will pay a visit to General Yue Fei's Tomb. Possibly the singlemost revered militaryman outside of Guan Yu in China, Yue Fei fought for the Southern Song dynasty against the invading Jurchen troops. Despite (and precisely because of) his victories on the battlefield, the general fell victim to court intrigues and was executed on fabricated charges. When the tomb was constructed in 1162, two iron statues of the high officials responsible for the general's execution are made to kneel in front of the gate and been spat on for nearly a millenium. (you can't really do this today though)

Finally we'll end our tour with a trip to Mei Jia Wu Tea Garden - a tea producing village on the outskirts of Hangzhou. Here you'll have the opportunity to see tea production at close range.

- Transportation and 1 lunch provided.
