What's Happening in North America?

    Just as some of Europe’s biggest events take place this summer, the same is occurring in North America over the coming month. Check out some of the major events and festivals to take place over the coming months...

  • Canada Day, Nationwide, Canada
    July 1st, 2010

    July 1st in Canada is the scene of a country-wide party celebrating the formation of the Canadian government on this day in 1867. On Canada Day cities are awash in red and white from flags waving to faces painted in Canada’s colours. You’ll see people wearing nothing but the maple leaf (the Canadian flag), and Canadian symbols such as the beaver, moose, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police everywhere you go.

    July 4th, 2010

    Independence Day commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence which was adopted on July 4th, 1776. People in towns and cities all over America get together for barbecues, street parties, parades and, of course, mind-boggling fireworks displays;

  • Just for Laughs, Montreal, Canada
    July 7th-18th, 2010

    Over 2,000 comedians from all over the world jet in to Montreal each year for this renowned comedy festival, and each year over a million people visit the city over the festival’s three weeks. While many of the shows taking place are ticketed, there are numerous free shows staged also, many of which are in the Latin Quarter.

    Born in 1984, Street Scene is an annual music festival that attracts the biggest names in rock, hip hop, and all other genres of music to the city. Over 100,000 people attend the concert each year which is one of the biggest music events in California.

    August 30th-September 6th, 2010

    The Burning Man Festival is one of the world’s most unique festivals. Over 25,000 people get together in an isolated corner of Nevada’s Black Rock Desert for a week to bar hop, visit henna stands, check out movies in temporary cinemas, go to freak shows and more. If you do decide to visit remember one thing – participants only; no spectators.
