    Queenstown

The Southern Alps ski resorts of Coronet, Cardrona and The Remarkables are all within 1 hr drive of Queenstown. There are daily buses to the resorts that pick up from the all hostels in Queenstown. You can rent your ski gear cheaply too in Queenstown itself rather than waiting until you get to the resorts. Of course skiing is just one of the many adventure activities to keep you occupied during your stay in Queenstown.

    Arrowtown

Arrowtown, a former Gold mining town, is about 30 minutes drive east of Queenstown. A sleepy little town, but perfect if you want to unwind after a hectic days skiing. Regular buses travel between Arrowtown and the Cardrona resort. If you fancy some down time after skiing you can also visit the Lake District Museum in town.

    Wanaka

Only 19km from Wanaka is the famous resort of Treble Cone. This is the largest of all the resorts in the South island and probably better suited to the intermediate and advanced skiers and snowboarders. Like Queenstown, Wanaka is a lakeside town but a little more chilled out than it's party loving neighbour.

    Arthurs Pass

Further north on the South Island in the Canterbury region next to the Craigieburn ski area is Arthurs Pass. The Mountain House in Arthurs Pass is close to 5 different ski areas. The skiing in the Craigieburn Valley with it's steep terrain is best suited to advanced and intermediate skiers.

    Mt Hutt

Closer to Christhchurch, only about 1 hrs drive is the ski resort of Mt Hutt. Mt Hutt has a huge variety of runs to suit all skiing abilities. There is no accommodation at the resort, so the closest option is in the town of Methven. Pinedale Lodge is just 10 mins drive away. Don't frett if you don't have a car, local buses run daily in Winter from Methven up to the resort.
