Staff Highlights - Catarina Nilson

    Name...
    Catarina Nilsson
    Position...
    Senior Account Manager at hostelworld.com
    Nationality...
    Swedish
    My first holiday was...
a summer with British beauty and high waves on the island of Jersey in the Channel Islands.
My most memorable travel experience over the past 10 years is...
being told by a whispering waitress in the southern Uzbek city of Termez that if we went to the Zoo, into the very corner where the camels were, and jumped up on the wall - we could see into Afghanistan. Said and done in front of curiously stunned animal carers.
    My funniest travel memory is...
when me and my friend Johanna took a random bus from the bus station in Tbilisi, Georgia and ended up being taken by a few local guys to a well disguised private Stalin museum. Scary, surprising and fantastic!
    My top travel destination...
    Central Asia
    My top travel tip is...
    Always ask the locals.
How do I think travel has changed most over the last 10 years...
Before you took off and collected all your stories in your memory, to then tell all when you came back home, wait in anticipation for photos to develop and letters to arrive from new found friends… now it’s all instant and you share along the way. Both have their beauties.
    Top travel necessity...
is tea tree oil, works for everything
Next destination on my travel wish list is...
Antwerp, I so need a design update!
Why I like working for hostelworld.com...
The combination of learning and sharing, and the privilege to grow with a dynamic company in motion.
