    Name...
    Darach Ellison
    Position...
    Accounts Assistant
    Nationality...
    Irish
    My first holiday was...
    in Sunny Beach, Bulgaria.
My most memorable travel experience over the past 10 years is...
This is a tough question, I find the best travel experiences are the experience’s which place you out of the comfort zone and into situation’s that are un-expected and surreal to your normal daily pattern. So I would have to say that my most memorable travel experience was on a jungle trek in North Thailand and walking through a remote rural village and randomly getting involved in a game of Soccer with the local kids, and I remember not wanting the game to end and the guide being completely stressed out because this was not on the itinerary and he didn’t want to be trekking in the dark.
    My funniest travel memory is...
It’s not particularly a memory, because I can’t remember it but it’s a photo of myself and my best mate (Podge) on our walk home from the pub in Souze Dioux (Italy). It crack’s me up every time I see it or think of it. It’s a close up of the two of us, I have what appears to be an upside down chair on my head, and he has a “beware of the deer” sign stuffed half way into his Jacket, and his head is at a right angle to my body, neither of us can fathom how it was physically possible or how indeed we managed take the photo.
    My top travel destination...
    Perenthian Islands, Malaysia
    My top travel tip is...
don’t be afraid of what you don’t know
How do I think travel has changed most over the last 10 years...
In one word the “Internet” the traditional travel distribution networks have become obsolete as now traveller’s are able to tailor their particular needs, and budgets. There is also a greater awareness of larger variety of destinations, and people have a heightened sense of adventure. The smaller accommodation provider’s are now more able to sell their room’s more effectively and are not as dependant on travel operator’s or agent’s. The advent of no frills airlines has made travel a lot cheaper than it had previously been.
    Top travel necessity...
Remote iPod charger! Ten hour bus journeys don’t seem so bad!
Next destination on my travel wish list is...
    Peru!
Why I like working for hostelworld.com...
First Friday Drinks, among other perks! I think the fact that Hostelworld is still a relatively young company which is still growing, and still learning and developing makes it an exciting company to work for, and being part of something that has grown so quickly with ambition to continue that growth in an industry that I’m passionate about.
