It was dirty, it felt haunted , the bathroom door wouldn’t even close , the area is dirty and ghetto . It smelled bad in the room and in the hallway. The cleaning staff was rude . Yes it cheap but if I knew it was that bad I would have paid 50 bucks more and got a better room.

The hotel is very nice. You get a good room for a cheap price. It's only 40 min walking to pier 39 or 10 min driving. The hotel is close to the Tenderloin but we didn't notice that. The staff is also very friendly.

This wasn't a hostel really - just a basic hotel - but, by San Francisco standards, it was exceedingly good value for money. I stayed in a hostel originally - I paid $140 + tax for a old and messy room without a bathroom. This hotel was $100 + tax for a decent en suite. True there were none of the extra you'd get in a hostel (eg rooms to socialise or organised social activities) but there was little evidence of that even in the hostel (and it was a large, well-established hostel!).
