About

Long before it became an arty and boutique accommodation, PH Hostel Birmingham was originally a Victorian factory. Nowadays you’ll find a blend of both worlds when you stay with us. Housed inside our big red brick building, you’ll find relics from days gone by as well as locally selected experimental art and creative murals.

Sandwiched between the famous Jewellery Quarter and the city centre, we’re an ideal launchpad to explore the best that Birmingham has to offer. If you aren’t so much in the mood for exploring, and you’d rather hang out, socialise or even regenerate a little, we can also help you with that. Onsite we have a café, a bar, a wellness area, and a yoga space.

When it comes to a spot to lay your head, we have a range of accommodation types, including airy lofts and private rooms as well as community-minded shared spaces. So whatever your budget or needs, we’ve got something that will work for you.

Friendly service and overall modern hostel, however the dorm rooms are extremely loud in the night so it may be hard to get a rest unless you’re loud yourself. That being said it’s the cheapest in Birmingham usually, so a non-shared room may be the best bet. Otherwise, thought it was clean. I had to pay £60 extra to upgrade to my own room otherwise it would be impossible to sleep personally.

This hostel made multiple errors on my booking. They cancelled my reservation and said i cancelled it, i then spoke to staff to rearrange it who reassured me i would have a room on arrival day. Arrival day comes, my booking does not exist…countless clerical errors, copious amounts of useless whatsapp messages, including ones at 2am?! If you absolutely have to stay here, ring up every single day to check they know you are coming.

Overall, the experience wasn’t terrible, but there’s room for improvement. Security could be tighter—it seems like anyone can walk into the hostel and access locked areas. The biggest issue was the plumbing; most drains were clogged, and aside from the reception restroom, cleanliness was lacking. Also, in the shared dorms, some guests talked at full volume past 11 PM. On the positive side, the staff was friendly, and the food services and lounge were great.
