It was rebuilt in three years, in stone, in the art nouveau style of the time, and the result is one of the most complete art nouveau towns in Europe, with turrets, spires and carved facades along the harbour.\r\n\r\nThe town is spread across islands on the coast, with the Sunnm\u00f8re Alps rising behind it and some of Norway's most famous fjords close by.
