Unlike Khiva, people still live in it: kids play football outside madrasas and families sit by the pools in the evening. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.\r\n\r\nThe Kalon Minaret, built in 1127, so impressed Genghis Khan that he spared it when he burned the rest of the city.
