Pedro Tea Estate, just outside town, runs short factory tours that show how leaves become black tea, and the Mackwoods Labookellie estate on the Kandy road lets you walk through the factory and sit with a free cup overlooking the slopes. In the morning you will see pickers working the bushes on every hillside.\r\n\r\nHorton Plains National Park, an hour away, is a high plateau of grassland and cloud forest. A 9.5-kilometre loop leads to World's End, where the escarpment drops away by about 870 metres, and past Baker's Falls. Arrive when the gates open at six: by mid-morning the mist usually rolls in and hides the view.\r\n\r\nIn town, see the Tudor-style post office, Victoria Park, and Gregory Lake, where you can hire pedal boats or walk the shore.
