We went hard (and so did you!) in twenty of our favourite hostels in some out of this world locations across the globe. There were shocking confessions, intense dance offs and more games of beer pong than you could throw a ball at. That means all 5000 of you that joined us in person across six continents (Antarctica\u2019s next on our list!), plus the thousands more that tuned in to our live streams on Instagram every night to celebrate with us from wherever you were in the world.<\/p>\n<p>We kicked off our time travelling adventure in Germany, with a 1999 themed party at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/hosteldetails.php\/St-Christopher-s-Berlin-Mitte\/Berlin\/15426\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">St. Christopher\u2019s Berlin Mitte<\/a>, before seeing in the Millennium in San Diego at the technicolour hippy heaven that is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/hosteldetails.php\/USA-Hostels-Ocean-Beach\/San-Diego\/2418\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">USA Hostels Ocean Beach<\/a>. We then journeyed through the years to 2019, stopping for a Double Denim disco in Mexico\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/hosteldetails.php\/Selina-Cancun-Downtown\/Cancun\/283430\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">Selina Cancun Downtown<\/a>, a Sk8ter shindig on Colombia\u2019s Caribbean coastline at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/hosteldetails.php\/Viajero-Tayrona-Hostel-and-Ecohabs\/Tayrona-National-Park\/283178\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">Viajero Tayrona Hostel &amp; Ecohabs<\/a> and an Under the Sea pool party (attended by several mermaids) at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/hosteldetails.php\/Lub-d-Phuket-Patong\/Phuket\/266449\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">Lub D Phuket Patong<\/a> in Thailand. Our global gathering continued with a Funky Gym theme at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/hosteldetails.php\/Unite-Hostel-Barcelona\/Barcelona\/294503\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">Unite Barcelona<\/a>, a Jungle jam on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/hosteldetails.php\/M-Montreal\/Montreal\/49955\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">M Montreal<\/a>\u2019s epic rooftop, an intergalactic Pluto party at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/hosteldetails.php\/White-Rabbit-Hostel-Siem-Reap\/Siem-Reap\/281218\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">White Rabbit Hostel<\/a> in Cambodia and a Lost Temple adventure at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/hosteldetails.php\/JO-and-JOE-Paris-Gentilly\/Paris\/293315\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">JO&amp;JOE Paris<\/a>, before we all turned into Vampires at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/hosteldetails.php\/Abraham-Hostel-Tel-Aviv\/Tel-Aviv\/264791\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">Abraham Hostel<\/a> in Tel Aviv. By the halfway point our hangover was real, but a night of Greek Mythology at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/hosteldetails.php\/Puri-Garden-Hotel-and-Hostel\/Ubud\/280370\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">Puri Garden<\/a> in Bali had us back on our feet. We headed to Peru to act like Witches and Wizards in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/hosteldetails.php\/Wild-Rover-Hostel-Cusco\/Cusco\/47380\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">Wild Rover Hostel Cusco<\/a>, became Superheroes at the stunning <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/hosteldetails.php\/Rodamon-Riad-Marrakech-Hostel\/Marrakech\/272422\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">Rodamon Riad<\/a> in Marrakech, threw our own Festival at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/hosteldetails.php\/JUNGLE-by-thehostelcrowd\/Goa\/80680\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">JUNGLE by thehostelcrowd<\/a> in Goa and went Emoji crazy at the brand new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/hosteldetails.php\/Wombats-City-Hostel-Venice-Mestre\/Venice\/293796?dateFrom=2019-08-16&amp;dateTo=2019-08-17\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">Wombat\u2019s City Hostel Venice<\/a>. Before we were all partied out, there was still time to #MeetTheWorld at Tokyo\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/hosteldetails.php\/Emblem-Hostel-Nishiarai\/Tokyo\/102785\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">Emblem Hostel Nishiarai<\/a>, cover ourselves in glitter for a Brazilian Unicorn party at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/hosteldetails.php\/O-de-Casa-Hostel-Bar\/Sao-Paulo\/46144\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">O De Casa Hostel Bar<\/a> S\u00e3o Paulo and walk the red carpet like the Superstars we are at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/hosteldetails.php\/The-Independente-Hostel-and-Suites\/Lisbon\/52411\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">The Independente<\/a> in Lisbon. All that was left was to go out with a bang at our grand finale in London at the equally grand <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/hosteldetails.php\/Palmers-Lodge-Swiss-Cottage\/London\/14348\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">Palmers Lodge \u2013 Swiss Cottage.<\/a> Phew \u2013 excuse us while we go and lay down for the next 20 years!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-121348 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/@steveyalo-barcelona-701x875.jpg\" alt=\"20 year anniversary stories, two men in gym attire lunging at unite hostel\" width=\"701\" height=\"875\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\ud83d\udcf7\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/steveyalo\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">@steveyalo<\/a> &#8211; Unite Barcelona<\/em><\/p>\n<p>From local music and henna in a Moroccan riad to giant bouncy slides with views over Cusco, it\u2019s safe to say that no two hostel parties were the same. We danced on beaches and rooftops, in cities and jungles and just about everywhere in between. Some hostels even have their own tattoo parlours on site \u2013 in fact, if you were watching our live stream from Thailand, you may have seen a crazy party goer at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/hosteldetails.php\/Lub-d-Phuket-Patong\/Phuket\/266449\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">Lub D Phuket Patong<\/a> get the Hostelworld logo tattooed on his toe, live on Instagram! And we don\u2019t mean the temporary tatts we all covered ourselves in (anyone else still scrubbing those off?!), we\u2019re talking about permanent ink here. We learned to surf in San Diego (well, almost), how to make the perfect caipirinha in S\u00e3o Paulo, honed our Japanese calligraphy skills in Tokyo and were taught how to create traditional Indian flower garlands in Goa (one member of the Hostelworld team also learned that giving these can be considered a marriage proposal \u2013 after she\u2019d presented them to half the men at the party #awkward).<\/p>\n<p>We learned a lot about you guys too \u2013 firstly that you never turn down a free drink, even if it\u2019s a shot of blood (our Vampire party at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/hosteldetails.php\/Abraham-Hostel-Tel-Aviv\/Tel-Aviv\/264791\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">Abraham Hostel<\/a> Tel Aviv has a lot to answer for!) Our confession chair saw you spill your deepest, darkest travel secrets live on air, winning hundreds of dollars of Hostelworld vouchers and getting gunged in the process. Most of them are far too X rated to repeat here, but let\u2019s just say we know who to avoid if we see her on a pub crawl. If you know, you know!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-121350 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/DSC_9948.jpg\" alt=\"20 year anniversary stories, man getting gunged at the hostelworld party\" width=\"875\" height=\"745\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\ud83d\udcf7 <em>@ St. Christopher&#8217;s Berlin Mitte\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>As much as we loved all the incredible destinations we visited and the time we got to spend hanging out in hostels (i.e. our number one hobby), our favourite thing was getting to meet each and every one of you and help you to live your best hostel lives. This isn\u2019t just a soppy end of the night text \u2013 we actually mean it! And some of you enjoyed yourselves so much that you travelled across countries to attend other parties. We had guests in Marrakech that joined us later in Lisbon, a partygoer who flew from Cusco to S\u00e3o Paulo and a particular guy named Sean (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/howlsy\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">@howlsy<\/a>) who was so hyped after our Siem Reap night that he came and found us again in Bali!<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cA group of people in <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/hosteldetails.php\/Mad-Monkey-Phnom-Penh\/Phnom-Penh\/53012\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\"><em>Mad Monkey Phnom Penh<\/em><\/a><em> told me about The World\u2019s Biggest Hostel Party and the party animal in me had to find the next one, which happened to be in Siem Reap. I headed to <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/hosteldetails.php\/White-Rabbit-Hostel-Siem-Reap\/Siem-Reap\/281218\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\"><em>White Rabbit Hostel<\/em><\/a><em> and before I knew it I was getting a tattoo of the hostel\u2019s logo and receiving $100 worth of Hostelworld vouchers for getting involved in the party games (thank you very much by the way)! After the most epic party in Siem Reap, I decided to book a flight to Bali ahead of my plans so I could join the party at <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/hosteldetails.php\/Puri-Garden-Hotel-and-Hostel\/Ubud\/280370\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\"><em>Puri Garden Hotel &amp; Hostel<\/em><\/a><em>, which turned out to be one of the best I\u2019ve stayed in. The hostel choices for both Hostelworld parties I attended were spot on! We\u2019re not kidding about the vampires either \u2013 just don\u2019t expect to spot them in any of our photos! And of course, our wonderful competition winner Andrea who came all the way from Mexico to #MeetTheWorld with us at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/hosteldetails.php\/Emblem-Hostel-Nishiarai\/Tokyo\/102785\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">Emblem Hostel Nishiarai<\/a> in Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p>Okay, we could go on about the amazing time we had for another 20 years, but before we get teary eyed, all that\u2019s left to say is\u2026 THANK YOU!
