Using Hauptbahnhof<\/b> as a base point, walk east down Neuhauserstrasse and you will arive at Maxburgstrasse. Visit St Michael\u2019s Church<\/b>, the first of many that can be found in and around theAlstadt (Old Town)<\/b>. From here walk round to the Frauenkirche<\/b> and after visiting that church go all the way to the top of its instantly recognisable twin domed towers for a bird\u2019s eye view of the city. On a clear day can see the Bavarian Alps.<\/p>\n
The next square you will meet is Marienplatz<\/b>, the heart of the Old town. Tourists flock to this square in their droves to see the Glockenspiel<\/b>, a 15-minute show where over 30 painted statues dance and takes place at 11am and 12 noon every day (and 5pm from April-October). Once this is over, visit some of the other churches around the Alstadt, such as St. Peterskirche<\/b> and Hl. Geist<\/b>.<\/p>\n
Just below the Marienplatz is Viktualienmarkt<\/b>, the best place to go for some traditional Bavarian fare in the whole of Munich. This is a great place to meet other backpackers and tourists alike due to its beer garden.<\/p>\n
Keep going south and you will reach Europe\u2019s largest technology museum, the Deutsches Museum<\/b>. This museum is huge and there is so much to see and do that you could wander around it for days. Pick up a map, decide what you want to see best and get as much covered as you can.<\/p>\n
Walk back to Marienplatz, and then visit Hofbrauhaus<\/b>, Munich\u2019s best known beer hall. Don\u2019t stay here for the night though; it isn\u2019t exactly authentic but is still good fun for a few hours. Instead get the S train from Mairenplatz to Hauptbahnhof, and from here get tram #19 and go four stops to Landsbergerstrasse. Here you will find Augustiner Braustuben<\/b>, a true Bavarian beer hall. Not only will you get to sample some of the best German beer around, but you will meet a few locals get some Bavarian food too.<\/p>\n

Built specifically for the 1972 Olympic Games, the designers of Olympiapark<\/b> in northern Munich had long-term plans in mind. Today, most of the facilities are still used and the park is one of Munich\u2019s most popular tourist attractions. The main attraction is the \u2018Olympiastadion\u2019, which is also home to one of the world\u2019s most famous football teams, Bayern Munich.<\/p>\n
One of the best things about walking around the Olympic site is that is totally free. The organised tours cost a few euro, so if do feel like parting with a few, go up the Olympiaturm (Olympic Tower) for amazing views over the 667-acre site. To get to Olympiapark get the U3 from Marienplatz. The journey will take about 20 minutes.<\/p>\n

Go to Marienplatz again, except this time walk down Deinerstrasse. This will bring you to Munich Residence<\/b> where you will find over 600 years of Bavarian history. Built in 1385 as a small castle, it was gradually expanded into the building it is today. Highlights are the Antiquarium and the Rocco Rooms.<\/p>\n
Upon exiting the museum go to Odeonsplatz<\/b>, which almost looks like an Italian square. From here go through the \u2018Hofgarten\u2019 en route to the English Gardens<\/b>, Europe\u2019s largest city centre park. Within minutes of getting into the park and hearing the waterfall you will want to explore the rest of the park. Some of its best features include the Chinese Gardens (where you will also find one of the city\u2019s most popular beer gardens), Kleinhesselhoher See which is one of the park\u2019s artificial lakes, and Monopteros, a Greek-like structure.<\/p>\n
Kunstpark OST<\/b> which is just a short walk from Ostbahnhof train station is, literally, a theme park for adults. Complete with neon lights and bars and clubs to suit everybody, it has to be seen to be believed.
