Incorporating four separate streets (Castle Hill, Lawnmarket, High Street and Canongate) it is brimming with free museums. Edinburgh\u2019s largest cathedral, <b>St Giles\u2019 Cathedral<\/b> can be found there too.<\/p>\n<p>Grab a baked potato from the aptly named <b>Baked Potato Shop<\/b> on Cockburn Street. Afterwards visit two of the Edinburgh\u2019s finest museums, the <b>Royal Museum<\/b> and the <b>Museum of Scotland<\/b> which stand side by side on Chambers Street.<\/p>\n<p>Finish the day off in <b>Whistlebinkies<\/b> on South Bridge just off the Royal Mile. This is always a favourite with backpackers thanks to drinks promotions and live music.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Day 2 \u00a0&#8211;\u00a0Scotland&#8217;s number one attraction<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Edinburgh_castle.jpg\" class=\"post links\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1344 alignright post links\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Edinburgh_castle.jpg\" alt=\"Edinburgh_castle\" width=\"175\" height=\"131\" \/><\/a>Visit <b>Edinburgh Castle<\/b>, Scotland\u2019s number one tourist attraction. Its highlights include the <b>Crown Jewels<\/b>, the <b>Royal Apartments<\/b>and the <b>National War Memorial of Scotland<\/b>. Dedicate at least two hours to get the most out of your visit.<\/p>\n<p>Make your way down to the <b>Grassmarket<\/b> area from the castle and find a pub called the <b>Last Drop<\/b> which do special lunch deals for backpackers. Afterwards go over to <b>St Andrew Square<\/b> and get the<b>15A bus<\/b> to Roslyn to be a guest in <b>Roslyn Chapel<\/b>, famous thanks to the Dan Brown book \u2018The Da Vinci Code\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>As touristy as the Royal Mile is, many of the pubs which line it do good food making it a great place to get your tea. Two such establishments are the <b>Royal Mile<\/b> and <b>The End of the World<\/b>. After something to eat visit <b>Grassmarket<\/b> again, home to a wealth of pubs.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Day 3 \u00a0&#8211;\u00a0Check out the New Town<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Edinburgh_national-galery.jpg\" class=\"post links\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1345 alignright post links\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Edinburgh_national-galery.jpg\" alt=\"Edinburgh_national galery\" width=\"165\" height=\"123\" \/><\/a>For the best view of Edinburgh, scale <b>Arthur\u2019s Seat<\/b>, the extinct volcanic to the east of the city. If heights aren\u2019t your thing, or you\u2019re not the most energetic person in the world but you still want a bird\u2019s eye view of the city, climb <b>Carlton Hill<\/b> at the eastern end of Princes Street. The climb isn\u2019t near as strenuous.<\/p>\n<p>Afterwards explore Edinburgh\u2019s <b>New Town<\/b>. Packed with trendy shops and chic restaurants, it is quite different from the Old Town but still has many attractions. These include the <b>Queen Street Gardens<\/b>, the <b>National Portrait Gallery<\/b> also on Queens Street, and the <b>National Gallery<\/b> on The Mound.<\/p>\n<p>Finish the night off on one of Edinburgh\u2019s infamous ghost tours which depart from the Royal Mile Street.
