Ich liebe Halifax… sehr. Es gleicht das aus, was meiner Heimatstadt St. John’s fehlt – die Gro\u00dfstadtatmosph\u00e4re und das sichere Gef\u00fchl, in der Stadt auszugehen und nicht bef\u00fcrchten zu m\u00fcssen, jemandem zu begegnen, den man nicht sehen will. Aber die Stadt hat immer noch dieses atlantisch-kanadische Gef\u00fchl und die Verbindung zum Meer. Sie k\u00f6nnen in jede Kneipe gehen, aus der Fiddle-Musik ert\u00f6nt, und sich sofort wie zu Hause f\u00fchlen.<\/p>\n

Letztes Jahr habe ich von August bis Ende November in Halifax verbracht, auf Jobsuche, um Kontakte zu kn\u00fcpfen und Biere zu probieren. Ich hatte nicht viel Geld, aber da ich sparsam war und mich bei meinen Freunden auskannte, kam ich ganz gut zurecht. So k\u00f6nnen auch Sie es schaffen.<\/p>\n

1. Erkunden Sie die Aussicht auf dem Citadel Hill (oben)<\/b><\/h3>\n

Von hoch \u00fcber der Stadt sieht die Skyline von hier aus gro\u00dfartig aus. Der gr\u00f6\u00dfte Teil dieser Gegend wurde durch die Halifax Explosion im Jahr 1917 zerst\u00f6rt, eine der gr\u00f6\u00dften von Menschen verursachten Explosionen der Geschichte, aber die meisten Geb\u00e4ude wurden wundersch\u00f6n restauriert.<\/p>\n

2. Verbringen Sie einen Tag in den Public Gardens <\/b><\/h3>\n

Ein Spaziergang durch die saisonal ge\u00f6ffneten G\u00e4rten ist eine gute M\u00f6glichkeit, der Hektik der Spring Garden Road zu entkommen. Au\u00dferdem ist die Flora etwas, was Sie an der verregneten Ostk\u00fcste Kanadas nicht erwarten w\u00fcrden: tropische Beete mit Agaven und Kakteen, bunte Blumenbeete und sogar seltene Baumarten aus Japan, Kalifornien und der Schweiz.<\/p>\n

3. Spaziergang in der Innenstadt<\/b><\/h3>\n

Eine meiner liebsten Wohlf\u00fchlaktivit\u00e4ten in einer neuen Stadt ist ein Spaziergang durch die Innenstadt. Das Stadtzentrum von Halifax liegt komplett an einem Hang, so dass Sie sich durch die Stra\u00dfen schl\u00e4ngeln k\u00f6nnen, zwischen den Gesch\u00e4ften hin und her gehen und schlie\u00dflich am Wasser landen. Auch im Sommer ist hier viel los – Stra\u00dfenh\u00e4ndler, Menschen, die sich hier tummeln, Kreuzfahrtschiffe und jede Menge toller Lokale.<\/p>\n

4. Nehmen Sie an der Split Crow Power Hour teil<\/b><\/h3>\n

Halifax hat eine riesige Studentenpopulation, was bedeutet, dass die Stadt nachts zum Leben erwacht… egal, welcher Wochentag es ist. Donnerstags abends von 9-10 Uhr gibt es im Split Crow 2 Biere f\u00fcr 5 $. Es gibt Live-Musik und jede Menge betrunkene Ausschweifungen, also st\u00fcrzen Sie sich auf die Biere, bevor die Zeit abl\u00e4uft.<\/p>\n

5. Pause f\u00fcr Eiscreme oder einen Biberschwanz<\/b><\/h3>\n

Direkt im Stadtzentrum finden Sie zwei typisch kanadische Lokale: Beaver Tails und Cow’s Ice-Cream. Keine Sorge, Sie essen nicht das Hinterteil von S\u00e4ugetieren – Beaver Tails sind Geb\u00e4ckst\u00fccke, die mit Bel\u00e4gen Ihrer Wahl belegt sind. Cow’s ist eine beliebte Eisdiele, die aus Prince Edward Island stammt, aber nirgendwo sonst zu finden ist. Genie\u00dfen Sie das Erlebnis und z\u00e4hlen Sie bitte nicht die Kalorien.<\/p>\n

6. Machen Sie eine Tour durch die Alexander Keith Brewery<\/b><\/h3>\n

F\u00fcr etwa 15 CA$ erhalten Sie ein Freibier und tolle Unterhaltung in Nova Scotias beliebtester Brauerei. Die Einwohner von Nova Scotia lieben ihr Keith’s, und das sollten Sie auch. Lassen Sie sich in die Zeit von Mr. Keith’s zur\u00fcckversetzen, probieren Sie ein paar Gratisbiere und singen Sie sogar ein kleines Lied. Jedes vierte Bier, das in Nova Scotia verkauft wird, ist ein Keith’s. Wenn Sie also dazugeh\u00f6ren wollen, haben Sie am besten eines in der Hand. Vorzugsweise zu jeder Zeit.<\/p>\n

7. Verweilen Sie in der Spring Garden Road<\/b><\/h3>\n

Die Spring Garden Road ist angeblich die Stra\u00dfe mit dem h\u00f6chsten Fu\u00dfg\u00e4ngeraufkommen in ganz Kanada und ist ges\u00e4umt von Restaurants, Boutiquen und vielem mehr. Die Stra\u00dfe schl\u00e4ft nie und Sie werden sicher etwas Unterhaltsames in dieser Gegend finden.<\/p>\n

8. Gehen Sie an den Strand<\/b><\/h3>\n

Nova Scotia hat einige fantastische Str\u00e4nde und Badestellen. Wenn m\u00f6glich, sollten Sie nach Rainbow Haven in Cow Bay fahren, um eine wei\u00dfe, sandige Erholung von der Stadt zu finden, oder ein Bad im k\u00f6stlich betitelten Chocolate Lake nehmen. Ein Tipp: Er ist nicht aus Schokolade. Ich wei\u00df, ich war auch entt\u00e4uscht.<\/p>\n

9. Maritimes Museum des Atlantiks<\/b><\/h3>\n

Gegen eine geringe Geb\u00fchr erhalten Sie eine Geschichtsstunde \u00fcber die Region und erfahren mehr \u00fcber die Halifax-Explosion. Es sind auch mehrere Artefakte der Titantic ausgestellt, darunter einige ern\u00fcchternde Kleidungsst\u00fccke von Menschen, die nie aus dem Atlantik geborgen wurden.<\/p>\n

10. 2 $ Fr\u00fchst\u00fcck im Maxwell’s Plum<\/b><\/h3>\n

Dieses Restaurant hat nicht nur 60 verschiedene Biersorten im Angebot, sondern serviert Ihnen am Samstagmorgen auch ein fettiges Fr\u00fchst\u00fcck mit Speck, Eiern, Toast und Pommes frites… f\u00fcr $2!
