It\u2019s a classic tourist spot, but the heart and soul of the city\u00a0offers so much more than most brochures will tell you about. Luckily, we\u2019re bursting at the seams with top local tips\u2026<\/p>\n<h2>Most Popular Sights<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"post-image-placeholder\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/sqNoDbl.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\nWhile we love venturing off the beaten track (we\u2019ll get to that in a moment), I think it\u2019s probably a good idea to include some of the best main sites. It\u2019s called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nextechfestival.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">Nextech Festival<\/a>\u00a0and this year will take place on the 8-10th September, so if you\u2019re thinking about visiting this amazing city, that weekend should be top of your list! Nextech\u00a0represents a thrilling vision of the future, mixing 1000 years of traditional art with modern technology and house music. The gigs that make up the festival take place in some of the city&#8217;s most iconic locations, with\u00a0Sala Vanni,\u00a0Viper Theatre and\u00a0Fortezza da Basso (which dates all the way back to the 14th century) on this year&#8217;s agenda.<br \/>\nTickets start at:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Thursday (Sala Vani) &#8211;\u00a010\u20ac<\/li>\n<li>Friday (Viper Theatre) &#8211; 15\u20ac<\/li>\n<li>Saturday (Fortezza da Basso) &#8211;\u00a032\u20ac<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Or you can grab a 3-day pass for only 40\u20ac! \ud83d\ude09<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=YvigUYbFE1A\" class=\"post links\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=YvigUYbFE1A<\/a><br \/>\nThe city\u00a0also\u00a0has a whole host of live music venues at your service, from the former prison Le Murate, to the library by day, music bar by night La Cit\u00e9. If you\u2019re feeling bluesy, the basement bar Be Bop explodes with live music every Tuesday-Sunday night.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Art<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"post-image-placeholder\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/zcx5SGh.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\nWe all love the classic museum art vibe. But definitely take a mo to explore the beautiful street art of Florence, in particular the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/lartesanuotare\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">#Lartesanuotare<\/a>\u201d works (\u201cart can swim\u201d) by the popular Italian artist Blub. He transforms some of the most iconic Italian poetry, characters and paintings into underwater murals!<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"post-image-placeholder\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/iVFKpoN.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\nAnother unmissable masterpiece is the \u201cExit\/Enter\u201d works adorning the streets of the city where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/cletabraham\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">Clet Abraham<\/a> has transformed traffic signs\u00a0into clever works of art.<\/p>\n<h2>Food &amp; Drink<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"post-image-placeholder\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/OrKKfuu.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\nIt\u2019s certainly not hard to find mouth-watering food in Florence, but we have a few less well-known recommendations for you!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Street Food:<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/IlCernacchino\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">Il Cernacchino<\/a> (Via della Condotta) is a great place to start if you are looking for\u00a0something\u00a0local, authentic and low-cost<\/li>\n<li><b>Panainis &amp; Wine:<\/b> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allanticovinaio.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">Antico Vinaio<\/a> (Via dei Neri)<\/li>\n<li><b>Typical Tuscan Cuisine:<\/b> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trattoriadagiorgio.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">Trattoria da Giorgio<\/a> (close to Santa Maria Novella station, Via Palazzuolo). It only has 20\/30 seats though so you better book in advance!<\/li>\n<li><b>Drinks:<\/b> Piazza Santo Spirito or\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.firenze-oltrarno.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">Oltrarno<\/a> on the less touristy side of the city, near Giordini di Boboli and Palazzo Pitti.<\/li>\n<li><b>Quick Bite:<\/b> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitschfirenze.com\/kitschfirenze\/prenotazione\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">Kitsch 2<\/a> (Via San Gallo), recommended by\u00a0FrontierTraveller93!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Travel blogger extraordinaire <a href=\"http:\/\/lolaphotography.co.nz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">Lola<\/a>&#8216;s top tip: &#8220;Florence is surrounded by some of Italy&#8217;s most stunning countryside. I would definitely recommend a daytrip to the nearby Chianti wine region. I mean, who\u00a0can say no to getting driven around and being fed wine and cheese all day?!&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>Scenery<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"post-image-placeholder\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/ys8idz5.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\nLet\u2019s start with the jaw-droppingly gorgeous architecture. We suggest you take either the \u201cRenaissance\u201d or the \u201cMedici\u201d walking tours which are both offered in English, and are totally free!\u00a0If you walk down the hill from the Piazzle you\u2019ll find some great Insta opps at the serene Lungarno river crossing, the Ponte Vecchio and Chiesa del Cestello!<br \/>\nThere\u2019s also a calm atmosphere at the enchanting Giardini di Boboli park, where you can lose yourself in the labyrinth of greenery behind Palazzo Pitti.<br \/>\nThe Oltrarno is full of old boutiques, a wonderful market (between Via dell\u2019Ariento and\u00a0Piazza San Lorenzo) with a collection of\u00a0small shops selling everything from fresh pasta to sculptures.<\/p>\n<h2>Hostels<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"post-image-placeholder\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/N5207qT.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\nOf course we wouldn\u2019t be Hostelworld if we didn\u2019t put in a plug for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostelworld.com\/hostels\/Florence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"post links\">best\u00a0hostels in Florence<\/a>.
