The Christmas atmosphere is always magical, but Prague becomes the scene of a mystical fairy-tale with the Prague Christmas markets from\u00a01st December 2018 to 6th January 2019 <\/b> Held across various squares such as the Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square, the Christmas markets are the ideal place for some seasonal shopping. You can wander through the markets scattered all around the city, and fill your bag with decorations, traditional Christmas cakes, wooden toys, Bohemian crystals and local crafts, as well as sampling some delicious traditional Czech Christmas food and drink.<\/p>\n

As Prague Christmas markets go, this is one of the most well-known in Europe, and it\u2019s also the largest in the country. As well as the traditional stalls check out the concert that runs each day. If you\u2019re feeling traditional, explore the Nativity scene and its farmyard animals. There\u2019s nothing like petting a goat to make you feel Christmassy, right? At night the huge Christmas tree will be illuminated with thousands of lights \u2013 it\u2019s a special moment!<\/p>\n

This hostel lies right on the Old Town Square and near the Astronomical Clock. Everything is within walking distance, and the market is on your doorstep!<\/p>\n

2. Wenceslas Square (V\u00e1clavsk\u00e9 n\u00e1m\u011bst\u00ed)<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The second largest market in Prague is held in the lower part of Wenceslas Square in the heart of the historical centre of the city. Warm up with a glass of mulled wine (sva\u0159\u00e1k in Czech), and taste Christmas specialities such as braided cake (v\u00e1no\u010dka). Most of the goods in this market are handmade so head here for wooden toys, gifts made of glass and iron and steel presents as the blacksmiths sell their creations.<\/p>\n

Peace Square, in the heart of Vinohrady, is a must visit at any time of year. It\u2019s steeped in history with stunning landmarks: National House of Vinohrady, the Church of St. Ludmila and the Vinohrady Theatre. Traditionally, it is the first market to open its doors with around sixty stalls. Smaller than the markets of the Old Town and Wenceslas Square, this it is mostly frequented by locals, ideal for an authentic experience!<\/p>\n

The market of Republic Square is one of the best Prague Christmas markets if you want to get a taste of authentic Czech food. The hams are roasted on spits, sausages are prepared on the barbecue (klobasa) – super unhealthy but so tasty, cakes and pastries are prepared in front of you – try the “trdeln\u00edk”, a pastry coated with hot sugar. To accompany all these delicacies, enjoy the famous Czech beers – Pilsner Urquell, Budvar and Staropramen.<\/p>\n

The smallest Christmas market in Prague! Enjoy fewer people but perfect Christmas gift hunting: wooden toys and puppets for children, garnet jewellery (a stone local to the Czech Bohemia region) and crystal sculptures. If you have a sweet tooth, try the gingerbread or Medovina, a honey liquor. Warm up with a mulled wine and a spot of carol singing under the Christmas tree. Don’t forget your camera and your chapka (warm hat)!<\/p>\n
