Leevin Hostel Mountjoy

Booked the 2 female bunk bed dorm for a friend and myself. The room has the bunk beds and a small trash can. There is not even a small table or chair that you can set your stuff on. There are 5 hooks and one mirror on the wall. The bunk beds do have 2 drawers under them however we did not use them. Trash was taken each day from our room, no cleaning besides this. Our room had a skylight window that was high up which prevented us from shutting the light out. Seagulls would constantly be walking on the window making it hard to fall asleep. Even worse from the seagulls was just how paper thin the walls were. You could hear a conversation down the hall clear as day while laying in bed trying to fall asleep. I had to wear noise cancelling headphones every night in order to actually fall asleep. I’ve never stayed in a hostel where the walls were that bad. Thankfully our room was close to the shared bathroom. This was the only nice thing about the bathroom. There was visible mold on the ceiling and in other areas throughout. Bathrooms are “cleaned” every day = someone comes to quickly wipe down/scrub toilets and then leaves. The showers were never once cleaned throughout our 6 night stay. The shower curtains were caked in grime and the shower drain was clogged, causing water to pool at your feet. The toilet bowls were ironically the cleanest part of the whole bathroom. The facilities themselves were “undergoing renovations” but i really think the sign was just to have an excuse to keep the place looking s*****. As 2 young female travelers (with previous abroad experiences), we did not feel the space felt comfortable or safe. There were constantly people going in and out that did not appear to be staying at the hostel (ex.large groups of young boys). The only pro to come of my stay was that it definitely forced me to stay out and do more things because I was dreading going back to the hostel.

I have stayed in a lot of hostels in my day and this one was probably the worst. Terrible common space, bad rooms, and confusing hallways that made you feel more like you were in a corn maze then a hostel. The room had no air ventilation and you could hear the guy in the other room toss and turn. If this was a cheap room, it would be one thing, but we payed a lot for no sleep.

Very expensive, female toilets two floors up from my room which was inconvenient when I had to take a pee in the middle of the night, my bed felt like a coffin but the bed was quite comfortable, only cold showers but nice staff and clean overall
