About Belfast

Belfast has rid goodbye to its turbulent history and redefined itself as a hip place to take a city break. Artistic expression is still at the heart of city with huge street murals covering the walls and in no way is it trying to hide its past. Instead, its celebrating its resilience with a stellar museum offering and plethora of new delectable restaurants, pubs serving craft beers and brunch spots offering Instagrammable latte art.

Most hostels in Belfast are located quite close together in the leafy Queen’s Quarter, where you’ll find the Botanical Gardens and the regal Queen’s University. They are close enough to Belfast’s vibrant bars and pubs that you’ll be instantly infected with the luck of the Irish.

Game of Thrones fans should pull up a bar stool at The Dark Horse where you’ll find props from the hit show, whilst caffeine addicts need to grab their fix at Established Coffee. As the sun sets, head up to The Perch. The converted Victorian warehouse provides sprawling views of Belfast and arguably the best cocktail list in the city. Continuously voted one of the best attractions in the world, the multimedia Titanic Belfast exhibition should top any agenda. Other city highlights include the St George’s market, a covered Victorian Market with over 248 local and continental foods. For those seeking a rugged Northern Irish adventure, be sure to head to the Giant’s Causeway Cliff Path Walk, an hour’s drive from Belfast. Stop off at Dunluce Castle, a ruined medieval castle dramatically perched on the edge of a basalt cliff and cross the 75ft Carrick a Rede Rope Bridge
for views that stretch along the wild coast.

Belfast is pretty compact and most of it can be done on foot, but if you do need public transport buses run regularly throughout the city and to and from the airport. If you are heading out to explore the neighbouring villages and coast, hire a care for unrivalled freedom. Or, if you don’t fancy tackling the cliff-hugging roads, book a guided bus tour from the Visit Belfast Visitor Centre.
