Birmingham, once an industrial powerhouse, is a city that perfectly mixes history and modern architecture. Full of small affordable shops, clubs to release your dancing skills and six universities, libraries and endless museums to absorb some history and culture – there’s plenty to do! Have we already mentioned the Tolkien Trail?!
Birmingham’s hostels are great value for money and you will get to stay in amazing hostels in the city centre, all with great reviews. Are you after a party hostel? Or are you more about the home vibes? No worries, Birmingham’s hostels have you covered! Don’t forget the free breakfast in the morning and the free wi-fi at night to stay in touch with the friends you make along your travels.
Pick the more central hostels in Birmingham if you are all about exploring the city, its museums and to soak up the night vibes. There are some real beauties close to Birmingham New Street and Birmingham Moor Street stations that you really don’t want to miss on your visit!
You won’t get bored! Live a “Night at the Museum” at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery (free entry) with everything from dinosaurs and Egyptian culture, or check out incredible fossils and minerals at the Lapworth Museum of Geology (free entry). Museums not your thing? How does the Tolkien Trail sound to you? If you fancy something a bit more scientific, make sure to get the most out of the free outdoor space of the Thinktank (Birmingham's science museum at Millennium Point) every day between 3pm and 5pm. Don’t forget to ask at your hostel for the free walking tours: always the best way to find your way around the city!
If you have a car, you are probably sorted. Otherwise, you can arrive from anywhere in UK by train and you will be in the city centre. The bus network is quite efficient to get around the city, but we are big fans of travelling green any time possible: free daily bike hire is available in the city, all you need to do is to ask for the Birmingham City Council Leisure Card at one of the city cycle centres.
