Vancouver, British Colombia, is on the West Coast of Canada. Metro Vancouver has a population of over 2 million people and is beautifully nestled between the Salish Sea and Coast Mountain Range. Vancouver’s oceanic climate is perfect for lush Douglas fir forests to thrive and makes being outdoors quite pleasant, especially during late spring, summer, and early fall when there is less rainfall. The combination of having a large population, being surrounded by amazing natural landscapes and having a mild climate makes Vancouver an ideal destination for urbanites and outdoors enthusiasts alike.
Vancouver hostels are clean, green, affordable accommodation machines. Most offer free Wi-Fi, and some even include a huge cooked breakfast spread in the price. Choose a Vancouver hostel with a buzzing bar and great happy hours if you’re looking for a party vibe, or one a little out of the city centre with cosy private rooms if you’d rather chill. Some have fun social areas with table football and video games, and one even has a resident cat to cuddle when you’re feeling homesick!
Location, Location, Location. Choosing the right hostel for you largely depends on what you plan to do during your time in Van. Most of the hostels in Vancouver are either in Downtown or the West End. These are all great locations for shopping, dining, getting cultured, or hitting the nightlife scene. Staying in North Vancouver will make the mountain slightly more accessible, or you can always book near Jericho Beach for a more leisurely stay.
It’s impossible to be bored in Vancouver. There are high quality cafés, bistros, restaurants, and bars to suit any dietary preference; and enough breweries (large, craft, and microbrew) for you to sample to your hearts content. Vancouver has beautiful parks and beaches that you need to check out, the most well-known being Stanley Park. There are also remnants from the 2010 Olympic Winter Games like the Olympic Cauldron that are cool to see with your own eyes. No matter when you go, there is bound to be an event going on so check the listings and don’t miss out! If you happen to have some rainy days during your stay, don’t despair, instead head to the museums and art galleries throughout the city (The Science Centre is SUPER cool).
Metro Vancouver’s transportation network is provided by TransLink. You can get from Vancouver International Airport to Downtown on the Rapid transit Canada Line. Getting around the city is made very easy by the SkyTrain, Buses, SeaBus, and West Coast Express. There also bike rental locations all around the city, we recommend renting a bike and cruising the waterfront on a sunny day! Otherwise, if you’re willing to put on the miles, Vancouver is among the most walkable cities in Canada.
