Property Description

A comfortable host Tucked away in Yaowarat Chinatown, AMA hostel was once served as a mansion of wealthy Chinese migrants, surrounded by waterways and bridges that were the heart of Bangkok’s transportation. Perched three floors high up, this 1,000-square-meter house is comprised of two compartments: the main and minor buildings. While the larger hall was formerly resided by the owner’s big family, another smaller site was operated as the servants’ quarter. Since the era of King Rama V, the stately property has been passed through generations. However, its historical aesthetics still shine in every inch of its exquisite architecture.

We the mastermind behind the whole concept, decided to transform this elegant antique house into an urban-chic hostel. With 14guest rooms, the sophisticated space is tastefully renovated with a modernized look that continues to honor the past with elements from its colonial legacy. He aims to retain the original features of the significant structures, and the homey vibes of the house by giving only a few interiors a modern makeover, so guests get to immerse in its vibrant culture and valuable heritage. Embracing the traditional touches and contemporary designs, AMA hostel preserves rich, remarkable details, from Chinese quadrangles and intricate guard rails to antique parquet floorings and decent wooden windows. Colorful hues are what bring the old artistic surrounds to life. Stylish and sleek, each floor is decorated with subtly different shades, inspired by the moods and tones of the four seasons. On the first floor, the lobby area reflects Spring and Winter in fresh green and eggshell white, offering a warm and welcoming ambiance once the guests enter the door. There’s also a little corner for those who’d like to enjoy a cup of coffee in the relaxing café. The second floor draws upon the sense of Summer, featuring romantic red that elevates the space with sensual hints. Another amenity includes the massage room that is also set on the same floor.

The top floor is where the Rainy season takes over. Against the cozy blue wall, the guests will find a shallow pool terrace for sunbathing and cool rooftop bar with ice-cold drinks. On top of that, the interiors are draped with plush fabrics, which are reminiscent of Nakun family business, adding the finishing touch to this one-of-a-kind hostel. With a name synonymous with grandmother in Chinese dialect, AMA will always draw guests close to home. The symbolic logo also resembles the strength of the signature railing that withstands the harsh passing of time and still stands firm all these years – like a kind, endearing grandmother who always take care of us with her warmth and grace.el in Khaosan Road area with great facilities.

For more than a century Featuring free WiFi and a shared lounge, Ama Hostel Bangkok is set in Bangkok, 700 m from Sampeng Market. Popular points of interest nearby include Wat Pho, Temple of the Golden Mount and Temple of the Emerald Buddha. Located in the Bangkok Old Town district, the hostel is within 1.4 km of Grand Palace. Amazing! The AC and breakfast were lifesavers. Nati the reception host was extremely kind and helpful in directions and overall prices in Thailand so we don’t get ripped off (still did tho😂). But yh highly recommend.

We loved staying at AMA hostel. It’s tucked away within Chinatown but has clear lit up signs leading the way to it. It’s beautifully decorated. The security is great, you need your key card to get into the front doors and to get to your room. Our room had four beds, locked storage below the beds, high ceilings, AC, a TV, and a balcony. The bathrooms were nice as well, clean, great decorations, and really good showers! The staff was so friendly and helpful!! Highly recommend staying there!!

AMAZING STAY!!! My friend Johnny recommended I stay here with them and I was so impressed. The owner cares so much about attention to detail and customer satisfaction. The place is BEAUTIFUL I’ve never seen a hostel so amazing. Everything was perfect. Breakfast was so good, most comfortable beds in Bangkok, smells great every second of the day, beautiful shallow pool on a terrace, fantastic sleeping areas with privacy curtains and all amenities. You will not find many even CLOSE to this. Thanks!

Great hostel! I was only there for one night so I can’t speak on activities around or atmosphere. But the staff was very helpful. Bed was comfy. Good size security locker and storage space. Curtain for privacy. Bathrooms were clean. You need a key card to get to the rooms and into the room so it’s safe. Simple and delicious breakfast upstairs. Only thing worth noting that I wasn’t aware of was there’s a 500 baht deposit for the key so just make sure you have enough cash on you.

We stayed here for three nights! Overall it was pretty awesome. The only negatives being: 1) Location- the taxi/grab drivers never know where to drop you or pick you up & always ends up being a mission. 2) toilets aren’t connected to the rooms & you can’t shut the actual doors of the toilet areas. So getting dressed isn’t easy for a girl as people walking the hallways can always walk past. Overall apart from that it was AWEEESOME!

The location is a bit off the city centre and is at a narrow alley, coming back at night as a female solo traveller may be a lil unsafe. The hostel is sooooo pretty that gives you an authentic feel of being in the olden Chinese days and I'm very impressed. The hostel is extremely clean and the toilet smells refreshing!! The privacy curtain for each bed is amazing. All the staffs there are super helpful and friendly, especially Nati who walked me out at dawn. LOVE it, highly recommend!

The AMA hostel was really clean and the rooms were nice but small. Breakfast was really good! There is a bar but it apparently is never open/never serves drinks and that was a bit of a disappointment.

Definitely the comfiest beds out of any hostel I’ve been in. Super clean, the pool is super shallow but it’s nice to lounge in. The breakfast isn’t anything too crazy, just some rice and noodles. The staff were really nice, there’s not really an atmosphere here at all. The location isn’t the best but there is a market about 20 minutes walk away. It was also confusing to find at first as well because it’s in an alley. Over all pretty happy with our stay!
