Ady's Place Backpackers is the spot to meet folks from around the world, as we only host travellers with an international passport! We give you a free breakfast every morning so you can get to know other guests and, as a treat on Sundays, we'll make you pancakes. We also put on free events like our Friday barbecue – it's up on our rooftop terrace (because the Sydney skyline looks even better with a cold beer). After partying in Sydney's clubs, recover in our common room – there's two-tiered seating to view our 75-inch flat-screen TV. Head here on Sundays for movie night and free popcorn.

We're centrally located – just a 15-minute walk from the city and a 10-minute walk from Kings Cross railway station. From Sydney Airport get the T8 rail line to Wolli Creek. Change to the T4 line and exit at Kings Cross Station (the journey takes about half an hour). When Bondi Beach beckons, get there on the train in 37 minutes. Hit Hyde Park in 14 minutes on foot and stroll for 24 minutes to reach Darling Harbour.

Rooms and Dorms

Most of our mixed and female-only dorms have a private bathroom. Linen is free and you can hire a towel from reception if yours has disappeared on your travels! You'll get a large storage locker to stash your backpack – bring a padlock or buy one from the front desk. After dark, snuggle up in your bunk and use our free Wi-Fi to let everyone back home know what you've been up to.

Extras and activities

We have an entertainment manager here, so keep your eye on the events board at reception. There's everything from family-style dinners to pre-clubbing parties. We'll also give you a free city map for exploring solo – grab a coffee from our kitchen before you go. When you need to do a wash, just chuck your stuff in our machine and help yourself to a novel from our book exchange while you wait.

I planned to stay here for only two nights. After I met the amazing staff and other open minded backpackers, I extended my stay twice. The hostel offers good activities and fun nights out, so it’s easy to meet new people even when you’re traveling by yourself.

Big and small at the same time, it's a pretty chilled spot. Thank you ladies for making me feel welcome and for the top-notch help. It's nice to be remembered by name and not as an anonymous backpacker. xx

We really enjoyed our time here. It was our first 2 weeks in Australia and we really couldn’t have asked for anymore. It is within walking distance to all the major attractions, i.e Sydney Opera House, Harbour bridge are all within 15/20 minutes walk. The hostel was unbelievably clean (cleaned every day) and the staff were extremely helpful. Only complaint is with the BBQ the food is not served until 7:30 but they started making at 7 and therefore was a bit cold. Apart from that,it was a great.

Really nice vibe, with lots of events, put on for guests. The kitchen was kinda small for the number of people, and there wasn't much seating. Overall was a very good value for money

location is great and the value for money considering that is even better- so close to CBD. Rooms were great- enough storage for everyone and super clean. Bathrooms could be slightly bigger but kept tidy

Didn’t enjoy the hostel, the facilities are not the best. But you are getting what you pay for. Jemma (cleaner) was very nice and very helpful and good at her job. I wouldn’t stay again however.

Location is good and value for money as well. But as much as the staff was trying to keep it clean - the kitchen was always filthy. It’s the responsibility of the residents to do their part but it should be better enforced to keep clean. The bathrooms need updating- all of them. Shower curtains would be nice to not spread water everywhere. Stayed in the girls room with en-suite - alright but the cold water of the shower was not working so boiling hot water only. Also the sink is all rusty.

Staff are amazing! But we lost some food, thankful not important. Not the cleanest expect very very basic. And noisy when you’re trying to sleep 😱 Showers are spoilt in the female room and I heard it’s been like that for real Long. In summary to help backpackers out, if hostel doesn’t matter to you, then go for it. Sleep and put your stuff in peace.

Kitchen too small for the amount of people, dirty and bad equipment. Shockingly bad bathrooms and only 6 showers for a lot of people. Location and people are the only thing going for it.
