The Akashi Hostel was the perfect stay for us. Located right in the center it’s perfect for enjoying the nightlife just two blocks away and the historical center is within 5 minutes walking distance. The hostel itself is really clean with hot showers and a nice breakfast. But the best part are all the lovely travelers you will meet. They had 4 friendly volunteers that will give you the best recommendations and maybe even join you going out. 😉

This is top hostel on my list of 12 I have been. Heidi, Doug and Ollie made the stay incredible. 1 day trip turned in 5. They went out of their way to help me as my plans went back and forth. Ollie was magnificent source for Merida exploration, he is an aficionado of music and conotes. On his days off he took 5 of us guests to five different cenotes. He guided us to his favorite restaurant. I went there 3 days a row because I love it so much. This hostel I a great find and value

Everyone one working here was super friendly and helpful. I was sick for a few days and the cleanliness was well appreciated at times like these. I stayed in the private room and the air conditioner worked like a champ. It was a nice place to meet other travelers.

This hostel was wonderful for making friends (I was a solo traveller) with good social areas/organised activities. The staff were so welcoming, the place felt like a second home. Lots of cheap/good quality food options surrounding the hostel or within 15 minutes. Merida is beautiful and I did not want to leave. Thanks Iggy, Liz, Frida, Marion! There were not enough lockers, but this could be fixed easily/soon.

Akasha was what we'd call 'meh', as compared to other hostels that we saw in Merida. The rooms were really hot and barely enough space, the lockers were out in the hallway but were small. The facilities were mediocre and you almost had to play Russian roulette to see if you got a stinky bathroom or not. The hostel has a lot of potential and with a bit of work would be a good place to stay but there are better places we'd recommend in Merida.

A seemingly great price (hostel with a pool after all!) but the place is plagued with very bite-happy bugs and a strange atmosphere. Maybe a one-off but there were a lot of old men in the communal area just drinking cans ALL the time. The kitchen (basic at best) hob also broke and just before we were about to cook. No attempt to really fix it or apologise. Dorm also so so hot and def no air con However lots of cheap and great taquerias very close. Not too far from centre, and lockers in rooms.

To be honest, it's a crappy hostel with nice staff. Pay that bit more and go to Nomadas for a much more comfortable stay.

our toilet was broken from the moment we showed up, and despite speaking to numerous staff none of them did anything to fix it. the rooms also have no windows or any kind of ventilation. there are no locks on the doors, and we came home one day to find the cleaning woman had left our door open to the mosquito infested common area so our room was full of bugs. overall this place was uncomfortable, unsafe and unsanitary. i’m surprised hostelworld advertises them.
