The Akashi Hostel was the perfect stay for us. Located right in the center it’s perfect for enjoying the nightlife just two blocks away and the historical center is within 5 minutes walking distance. The hostel itself is really clean with hot showers and a nice breakfast. But the best part are all the lovely travelers you will meet. They had 4 friendly volunteers that will give you the best recommendations and maybe even join you going out. 😉

Everyone one working here was super friendly and helpful. I was sick for a few days and the cleanliness was well appreciated at times like these. I stayed in the private room and the air conditioner worked like a champ. It was a nice place to meet other travelers.

Akasha is cheap and walking distance to the center of Merida. The volunteers and guests are cool and friendly as well. However, there's no A/C in the dorms and it gets sweltering hot, the mosquitoes are relentless, and some friends of mine woke up to cockroaches crawling on them. Breakfast is the typical hostel fare in Latin America - bread and jam, some fruit, and instant coffee.

    Very Good

I stayed 1 night in the private room and 2 nights in a dorm. The private room was very nice, the dorms were okay—they had triple bunks instead of double, so kind of cramped. Outdoor showers/sinks (except in the private room) and open outdoor common spaces that were cozy. The dorms & common areas don't have AC, so I didn't really want to hang out there during the day. With how f***ing hot it is in Merida, I would spring for somewhere with a pool, but if you'll be out during the day, it's fine.

Akasha was what we'd call 'meh', as compared to other hostels that we saw in Merida. The rooms were really hot and barely enough space, the lockers were out in the hallway but were small. The facilities were mediocre and you almost had to play Russian roulette to see if you got a stinky bathroom or not. The hostel has a lot of potential and with a bit of work would be a good place to stay but there are better places we'd recommend in Merida.

A seemingly great price (hostel with a pool after all!) but the place is plagued with very bite-happy bugs and a strange atmosphere. Maybe a one-off but there were a lot of old men in the communal area just drinking cans ALL the time. The kitchen (basic at best) hob also broke and just before we were about to cook. No attempt to really fix it or apologise. Dorm also so so hot and def no air con However lots of cheap and great taquerias very close. Not too far from centre, and lockers in rooms.

To be honest, it's a crappy hostel with nice staff. Pay that bit more and go to Nomadas for a much more comfortable stay.

our toilet was broken from the moment we showed up, and despite speaking to numerous staff none of them did anything to fix it. the rooms also have no windows or any kind of ventilation. there are no locks on the doors, and we came home one day to find the cleaning woman had left our door open to the mosquito infested common area so our room was full of bugs. overall this place was uncomfortable, unsafe and unsanitary. i’m surprised hostelworld advertises them.
