Property Description

Almaa Sintra Hostel is a retreat centre and a Eco Hostel located in the heart of the Sintra Mountain Range which cultural landscape is classified by Unesco as a World Heritage Site.

Our house is sited in a property considered one of the oldest in Sintra, dating back to the 12th century.

Our rooms range from 2 bed privates to 3 to 8 (made out of recycled pallets) bed dorms in a heavenly environment.

Sintra is located near the westernmost point of continental Europe, northwest of Lisbon at 600 meters above sea level. Sintra is greatly admired, since it is a freak of nature in that it possesses a climate and vegetation not common in Southern Europe.

Rich in history and tradition, Sintra with its romantic atmosphere has been lauded by many writers, painters and artists who have spread the fame of this Glorious Eden to every corner of the world.

We are located 10 minutes walking from town center and 40 minutes by train from Lisbon Almaa Sintra Hostel is the perfect place to be.

This is a very special place, with amazing gardens and a very unique energy. It's just down the road from Quinta de Regeleira so in a quieter more peaceful nature surroundings but close walk to the centre of Sintra. I am so grateful to have passed through there and once I experienced it would have like to stay for longer.

I really enjoyed my stay at Almaa. I found it to be a relaxing spot with beautiful scenery and a chill atmosphere. It would be nice if the WIFI reached the bedrooms (it only works on the first floor common area) but that is a small matter. While the common area, bathrooms, and dorms are kept very clean- the showers on the 2nd floor are kind of gross. Curtains and floors of shower areas are in need of some TLC. Overall, I'd stay here again.

This is a unique place. Very cosy and quite. It feels a bit like at mystical place, perhaps also because of the big natural garden. It a great place to stay if your looking for tranquility. Staff is friendly and helpful. There wasn’t much room to put stuff near the bed. Beds where comfy so. Perhaps just make sure you bring food... the restaurants are a 15 min walk away. Supermarket even further. No problem if you have a car. There is a midivil pub next door. :-)

Nice atmosphere, mostly because of the magical place that Sintra is. Toilets need getting used to because some of them don't have doors, but I really felt at home there :)

    Very Good

We really enjoyed our stay here - lovely staff and a great hostel ethos, in a stunning location. It's a bit difficult to find, but once you're there the views and natural surrounds are well worth it! We did however have a couple of problems with our room - we could padlock it while we were out, but couldn't lock it from the inside and had people accidentally walk in, which isn't great for a private room. The shower also smelled strongly of mildew, and was partly broken.
