Hostelworld says

Hostelworld guests voted America del Sur Hostel Buenos Aires the best in Argentina and Latin America at the 2011 Hoscars. This hostel is located in the beautiful San Telmo area, a short walk from Casa Rosada, Plaza de Mayo, Calle Florida and much more. Travellers tell us the staff are 'enthusiastic, friendly, helpful and competent', while the hostel itself is 'very chilled out if you want it to be, but also can party a lot, too'. We like that all their rooms are low capacity and ensuite.

Property Description

Hostelworld users rated us the Best Hostel in Latin America at the 2011 & 2012 Hoscars!

If you’re looking for a modern place with a relaxed atmosphere and welcoming staff...you should experience America del Sur Buenos Aires!

Our hostel opened in December 2008. It was built from scratch to fulfil backpackers’ needs while offering modern decor and high-comfort accommodation. We’re in the famous San Telmo district. This is one of the oldest districts in the city and is within walking distance of Plaza de Mayo, 9 de Julio Avenue, Puerto Madero and Plaza Dorrego. The metro station and buses are also nearby, so you can go everywhere easily.

We have a wide range of private rooms, with doubles, singles and twin bedrooms as well as triples and quadruples. We also offer four-person shared dorms. Both the shared and the private rooms have private bathrooms, individual air conditioning units and a hairdryer. Double rooms also have cable TV, telephone and safety boxes. Dorms have individual lockers.

We also have wheelchair accessible rooms and two elevators.

Shower and toilets are in different compartments so two people can use them at the same time.

We have a great TV room with DVDs, an amazing open area for BBQs, free Internet access on three shared computers and a free Wi-Fi signal in all rooms and common areas.

Would you like to reserve any excursion or bus? Or watch and feel an amazing Boca Juniors Football Match? Or find out about the best parties and restaurants in town? Our staff will help you on bookings and advice to make the most of your time in Buenos Aires!

You will be invited to free walking tours around the most important neighbourhoods and we’ll offer you VIP passes for the best clubs.

We look forward to see you soon among our guests! View House Rules

Really top notch hostel. With the latest of fittings and facilities. It was clean, had good atmosphere and is located in a very convenient location. My only complain was that the kitchen was not equipped with any condiments or even cooking oil.

This place was great. The vibe was nice and social and the staff were friendly and helpful. The hostel is also one of the most secure I've stayed at. The only cons are that the rooms were a little small and the hostel is more than a comfortable walking distance from Palermo. Overall, not serious cons at all. I would definitely recommend this place and stay again.

A great hostel! I stayed about ten weeks and had a great experience. The staff is super friendly and always there for any needs. It has a basic breakfast for an extra charge (150) but lots of places in San Telmo offer food and for the budget travelers you can make your own food in their kitchen. It has great common areas and it’s easy to meet people. My next trip to Buenos Aires will be to America del Sur too!

Solid hostel. Very clean, great staff, and great activities like walking tours. The shower in my dorm was weird, because it was shaped weirdly and got water everywhere. Otherwise, great experience!

Good location, San Telmo is a nice area with lots of food places and bars around. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Great atmosphere. The rooms were good too. Just bring your own lock for the lockers. The sink table in the room was a bit inconvenient because the water kept dripping on the floor but that's a very small issue. Overall I had a really good time during my stay in America del Sur, would definitely recommend.

Great place to stay, exactly like a hotel, very nice. However, the atmosphere lacks the social atmosphere of most hostels. Just something to think about for solo travelers. Also there was a lot of construction during my visit that the hostel failed to mention before my booking. Pretty loud and disrupting.

Great place to stay, will definitely stay here against n when passing through Buenos Aires. Wonderful location in San Telmo, near market and buses. My phone did get stolen when what looked like a homeless person swiped it while offering to sell lotto tickets during construction, was my fault for leaving it on table outside he took from underneath me. Stayed in both mixed and single, both great. And grocery store across street and bakery 1 block away

There are a few problems with the rooms here. In the 4 bed dorms, the bathroom tap and sink is located right next to 1 of the bunks. Water from there drips onto the floor so getting out of bed means wet feet. Our heater also wasn't working and took 1 night to get fixed. Also weirdly, my bag was left in the locker for a day and when I returned it had been moved to behind the counter.

contrary to most reviews i didn’t love this hostel. there is no bar and no atmosphere if you’re a solo traveler, the place was under construction the whole time i was there. it was loud, had to step over saws and equipment to get through the lobby and the patio and facilities were unavailable as a result. not to mention workers in the kitchen the whole time w equipment and plaster all over the place. staff were VERY friendly and sweet and place is clean. wish i’d known about the construction...

America del Sur Hostel Buenos Aires says

There's a lot going on at our hostel to keep guests busy and happy. In addition to our free walking tours and Wi-Fi, we offer free tango lessons, and free tickets for a lot of parties.
Our new building was purpose-built to suit a hostel and we think it's a lot like a hotel with hostel service and shared rooms. There's a maximum of only four beds in the dorms, with excellent cleanliness and daily cleaning.
We're just 10 minutes' walk from Plaza Dorrego and Puerto Madero, 20 minutes from Plaza de Mayo and Congress, and only three minutes' walk from Avenida 9 de Julio. The one local place that I really recommend guests visit is the Casa Rosada, only 20 minutes' walk away.
The main age group of our guests ranges from 18 to 45 years of age. We have all facilities prepared for people with a wheelchair - there's two modern elevators going to each floor and a room built to fulfil all needs to persons travelling with disabilities. Mariano, Owner
