Property Description

Central located, 24h/7 Reception and bar, full infrastructure and the best prices in town! The Amstel House Hostel has everything needed for a great stay in Berlin. By bus or by metro, we are only a few minutes from the central station, historical center, the Brandenburg Gate, the Zoo and the biggest and most famous shopping street Kurfuersten Damm.

Our amazing building was officially opened in 1914 - in the presence of the last Emperor of Germany, William II - and first used as a house for young single men. Its impressive facade in Art Nouveau style remains exactly the same and it is now a historical heritage. The inside building however has been completely renovated and modernized in order to fulfill all our guests needs. Our great infrastructure offers 24h/7 reception and bar, game room, free internet, bike rent, laundry and tickets services.

We provide a diverse range of clean and comfortable accommodation such as dorms, 4bedrooms, family rooms, twin rooms - ensuite or with shared facilities - and single rooms. Our team is at your service 24h/7, whether at the reception to check you in and help you with tourist information, or at the bar serving you the many beer types of our menu. We offer cheap breakfast buffet and all-you-can-eat burger BBQ (Nov. to Apr.), a guest kitchen, free Wi-Fi all around the hostel, laundry and tickets service, bike rent, game room, free maps, karaoke and DJs nights, safe, luggage room and much more to ensure your comfort and the supply of all your needs.

Breakfast is not included in the room rates and costs 6,00 EUR. View House Rules

Overview

In an Art Nouveau building that's survived both world wars, Amstel House Hostel is a cool and cultural base for discovering offbeat Berlin. The building is so cultural, in fact, that the last Emperor of Germany oversaw its opening in 1914! Nowadays, though, you can hang out at the 24-hour bar and work your way through the massive beer menu. To keep you entertained, we also put on karaoke and DJ nights. Hang out with other travellers on our terrace, or head inside to our lounge or games room. In winter months, stick around for the all-you-can-eat burger barbecue!

Location

We're in Moabit, a multicultural area near the centre of Berlin. Our kiez (neighbourhood) has its own vibe, with lots of cool restaurants and bars, but if you want to head into the city centre or to hipster areas like Kreuzberg, you can easily take the underground from Turmstraße station (the U9 stops here). It takes about an hour by bus to reach us from Berlin Schönefeld Airport, or only 20 minutes from Tegel Airport – the TXL express bus stops a seven-minute walk from our front door.

Rooms and Dorms

We've got private rooms with en suites for solo travellers, couples and friends who like their own space. You'll find bunk beds and communal tables in the mixed dorms. Lockers and linen are included, and if you forget your towel you can hire one from reception. In the morning, fill up at our daily breakfast buffet for only six euros.

Extras and activities

Like Berlin's club scene, our reception desk is open 24 hours. Our friendly staff are always happy to help out with travel tips and to book exciting tours for you. We have bikes for hire if you want to get around like a true Berliner – the city's known for its excellent cycling paths. There's free Wi-Fi throughout the building, so after a few Snapchats, your friends back home will wish they were with you and your cool new backpacking buddies!

    Superb

This was my first trip that I have done alone and I was a bit nervous on what to expect, but the hostel exceeded the expectations that I had. The staff no matter what time of day was very helpful and extremely friendly, plus in my book. I stayed in the 12 co-Ed room and the group of people in my room were very polite and respectful. There is a food market 3 min walking will all different types of food and the hostel itself has pretty good food as well. Highly recommend this hostel!!

    Superb

Very positively surprised with my single spacious room , it had everything well thought out . In-room shower and WC , a little table , a tv set. Facilities were clear , matress so-so , I would say comfortable enough , a little bit too soft for my taste and a heavy person might not enjoy it. Staff was helpful and friendly , I was able to leave my luggage for two days while I was out of the city. They get very crowded with people, so very full. This hotel was overall a very good experience.

    Fabulous

The actual hostel is okay. It seems really clean and the staff are really nice. The big issue I had here was that during my stay the place was overrun with screaming school kids. They made an almighty racket and caused a nuisance at all hours. Just as a personal preference I prefer quieter, adult only hostels. But I'm old! For this reason I probably wouldn't stay here again but I'd recommend it to others. The location isn't too bad, about 20 minutes walk to the central train station.

Big hostel, it is clean, staff somewhat helpful, quiet at night. It is a bit far from the main sites but you can easily reach those by public transportation. I would recommend this place if you don't mind transporting to downtown and another site.

Good hostel, nice staff, excellent atmosphere that will be grate fit for young people. Rich unlimited breakfast with vegeterian and vegan options. What did not fall in love: pillows, they are very soft and to uncomfortable for sleep, and there no air conditioning, in dorms at least.

    Fabulous

The hostel it self it’s really good: clean rooms & bathrooms, well equipped kitchen, elevator & bar. The only downside is the location: it’s in a nice residential area, but quite far from everything. You have to take public transport to get anywhere you want.

    Very Good

    07 Jun 2019
The hostel itself is awesome! The common areas are well equipped and comfortable. Rooms were clean, although bathrooms could use a deep clean. Overall, it's one of the nicest hostels I've stayed in. However, the location is not ideal. The area isn't the nicest and can give off a bit of a sketchy vibe at night. Everything worth seeing in Berlin is not within walking distance, and there aren't any great clubs or bars in the area (if you're looking to party at all).

    Very Good

    11 Jun 2019
This was a nice hostel with cheap drinks BUT the location wasn’t awful. It was about a 1-2 hour walk away from anything worth doing in Berlin. It kind of ruined the trip to be so far away. The place was also run over by a bunch of high schoolers. The facilities were pretty clean except none of the drains were cleaned so you stood in a puddle during your shower which was pretty good. The staff were very nice. Overall I would say DON’T stay here due to location, it’s not worth it.
