I spent a weekend here and met heaps of great people. This place is great for solo travelers and a really nice common area for everyone to hang out. the rooms, kitchens, and bathrooms are really clean and well maintained. No issues at all and the staff are really nice too!

Absolutely the best backpackers we’ve ever stayed in. Had a great group of people, relaxed and friendly. So very very clean and treated like you were at a motel by staff. Will definitely return!!

I had an amazing stay at Anchor Lodge. It is a very laidback and relaxed hostel. The staff is friendly and helpful. It is not very modern, but it has everything you need! I would definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a nice and comfortable place in Coromandel.

    Fabulous

I had a good stay at Anchor lodge for 2 night. I had a great bed with a skylight on the ceiling. It has a hot tub to relax in and is a great distance from town and food. Has great community spaces, clean beds, and large clean bathrooms. I would highly recommend this place. The woman who runs the place is a little unfriendly and I heard from the locals she isn’t very nice and can treat the employees poorly, which is sad. There is also no place in the rooms to lock anything up.

    Fabulous

The only glitch, that was disappointing, was that on our second night all the beds were taken in our dorm room despite us booking for two nights. The explanation given was that other guests had flexed between rooms. Unfortunately we didn’t know that so didn’t look in the other rooms for empty beds and found alternative accommodation with friends. Taking another bed would have compounded the problem if someone else had come in and the use of others’ bedding isn’t good so this needs resolving.

Decent hostel. Nothing spectacular, but they have what you need. Not a far walk to the town which is nice. Didn't think the reception staff were very welcoming; they were the only staff I interacted with.

Nice hostel with large dorm rooms. No lockers though, so a little messy. Also limited sockets! Kitchen decent although often unclean and chaotic. Hostel is located in a good place, only minutes from the supermarket, shops and restaurants.

Probably one of the worst hostels I’ve stayed in. They put me in a room with a totally unsuitable bed, then moved me to a room that they KNEW had bedbugs. Every hostel has problems with bedbugs at some point, but to keep the room open and continue to check people into it is totally unacceptable. The hostel was dingy and completely lacking in atmosphere. The only saving grace was that the staff I spoke to were pleasant enough and moved me to a private room for the night, thankfully minus bedbugs.

BEDBUGS. We found live bedbugs (I took a photo) in both dorm rooms. Staff said it was impossible as the rooms had been treated the week before with heat. Later found out from Facebook that this has been going on for months as others had the same experience. Clearly the hostel is not treating them as they said they would. the next day they were checking people into the same rooms even though they said they would close them for treatment. refund but no help with killing the bugs in luggage.
