Overview

The Auberge Internationale des Jeunes hostel is in Paris's super-cool Bastille district, and is a hot spot for young travellers (18-30) to hang out. Tell tales of your nights on the town over a free breakfast, or sleep in until our 11am cleaning time. You can hang out in the common room with your new travel buddies and grab a snack from the vending machines.

Location

Our hostel's in the 11th arrondissement, a 10-minute walk from the Place de la Bastille (a huge historical square full of eateries and an opera house) and less than 15 minutes from the Gare de Lyon train station. The Bastille neighbourhood is full of cool cocktail bars and chic restaurants. Our nearest Métro station is Ledru Rollin, where you can hop on line 8. If you're flying in, it takes about an hour to get to us from Charles de Gaulle and Orly, or just under 2 hours from Beauvais–Tillé.

Rooms and Dorms

You'll be able to choose from a shared or private room for bunking down. The larger ones have en-suite showers and toilets, and there are bathrooms on each floor for everyone else to use. If you want space for yourself and your partner or friends, you can book into a private room. No sleeping bag? No problem. Bed linen is provided, and towels can be rented for 3 euros.

Extras and activities

With our 24-hour front desk and no curfew, there's no time limit for making the most of Bastille's buzzing nightlife. And when you're out in the daytime, we clean the rooms daily between 11am and 3:30pm. We've got a microwave if you fancy a quick lunch, and there are four supermarkets a short stroll away. There's also free Wi-Fi in the rooms 24/7 and the lobby from 1pm until midnight, so you can post your best Eiffel Tower selfies!

This is a well located hostel. The showers were not very private and the rooms were kind of run down. It didn’t look like cleanliness was the top priority. There were safes in the rooms for valuables which was nice but the available luggage storage before check in was not very secure and they aren’t liable if anything happens. Didn’t seem worth the money honestly, could have done an air bnb.

My stay at this hostel was mediocre. I stayed in a 4-bed mixed dorm. There was only one socket for charging in the whole room. And the socket was in the middle of the wall so if you wanted to charge your phone it would simply have to dangle and be in plain sight. Also the dorm had an en suite bathroom with toilet, sink and shower all in one tiny space. The bathroom was not very inclusive of all bodies as I was barely able to get dressed and undressed in the bathroom when I went to shower.

Three of us were in a three bed room. Beds we’re not comfortable and no one could sleep at all, 100% worst sleep that any of us had had. The toilets weren’t very nice on our floor. We didn’t shower here but walking down the hallway you could see straight into the shower room. We left our bags in the luggage room after we checked out, when we came back they let us into the room without even checking who we were, we could have been anyone. Very low security. Breakfast was basic but free, so good.

Our first night was fine nothing wrong. The next night my friend and I were told that a mistake was made and we were no longer in the same room, despite reserving the same room. Was blood on toilet seat in room bathroom, unhelpful concierge, and overall dirty hostel. Not a great travel experience, and tainted trip to Paris. No outlets in rooms, no bedsheet on mattress first night. Also far from pretty much everything, not worth the money.

This is the wotst hostel Ive ever seen. The guests are expected to share keys because the hostel doesnt have enough for everyone. "Just knock on your room and if no one lets you in we'll come unlock it for you" Absurd, and it's a security risk. Everything else is pretty bad too. They close 4 hours a day and there is inconsistant information about exactly when. The bathrooms also have no soap. Showers is one thing, but if no one can wash their hands in the toilets it's a problem.

I rented a private two person room. It had a very bad musty smell to it, there were ants crawling on the floor and on the walls. The water from the in room sink smelled like sulfur. It is very loud as the walls are very thin. The staff forces you to leave your key with them ANYTIME you leave to hotel and you have to wait in line when you come back. Also, they require you to leave the hostel from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm for "cleaning" and shut off wifi. Do not recommend. Stay elsewhere.
