Property Description

Right in the heart of Old Quebec, Auberge de la Paix, founded in 1972, is the oldest youth hostel of the Old Capital, and the most convivial and affordable in the area.

A stay in the Quebec Province, may it be for holidays, for a work-and-travel opportunity or for an entire life, is not worth it, in truth, without a visit to Quebec City, the cradle of New France, the capital of French America, the oldest fortified city in North America, a place intensely rich in History...

If we only had one tip to make, it would be to come visit us! The hostel is located in the heart of the historical district, it's grooving with things to do around, there is no chance you'll get bored!

Background

Auberge de la Paix youth hostel was founded in Quebec in 1972, mainly to provide travelers with accommodation and services at a modest cost. In 2012 it celebrated its fortieth anniversary of operation.

Like similar non-profit organizations, it came out from a wide counter-cultural movement that symbolized a way of living, learning, communicating, and opening to the world.

Its original project was also meant to express a concept that emerged long before those models. Indeed, it has certain similarities to the 'night shelter' that has not changed since the Middle Age pilgrims. In fact, at the end of their journey, tired travelers stopping at the hostel wish to rest themselves in an inviting, quiet and neat place.

Ever since, Auberge de la Paix has been increasingly popular with customers who favor social interaction with its staff members in a cool and relaxed atmosphere. Its firmly established reputation allows travelers from all over the world to appreciate its receptiveness and promptness as well as successive improvements.

You can’t beat the location, this was the best part of Auberge de la Paix. Very affordable so it’s modest which is suitable and just fine. I would stay here again, definitely.

Nice place. Although the bed was not hugely comfortable, but the rooms were warm and clean. The staff were helpful but not so much friendly.

    Fabulous

Security was lacking a bit. There was no key required for the rooms, a large locker was provided for your belongings in the room. No light was provided for the bunk beds. Breakfast was also lacking a bit with just toast and some dry cereals. Hard to beat the proximity to Old Town, but finding parking was very difficult. We had to circle for approximately 45 minutes before finding the entrance to the nearby underground parking deck. The hostel was clean.

Staff member could be a bit more friendly to English speaking travellers, felt as though they were looking down on me for no reason. And replace those showers because having to press them on every 4 seconds (literally) is ridiculous. Other than that, great location with awesome bars and restaurants next door and near by.

Location was perfect. Everything is less than 10 min walk. Shower is fine but can be improved. I paid $5 for bed sheet. Was told will get it back when I return the sheet, but there was no one there in the morning, so I just left the sheets there. That also mean anyone can come in to the building (no lock for our room).

    Good

The location of this hostel is great, it has that. Otherwise, it's fairly expensive and then you have to make your bed, which is disruptive and hard for top bunks. The showers are push button, you have to keep pushing it every 10 -15 seconds, and you don't get to adjust the temperature. Not very relaxing after run in drizzly weather and Quebec isn't exactly known for its frequent droughts. Bottleneck around the loud industrial coffee maker. Maybe just brew better regular coffee?
