Property Description

Since 1650 the Ave Gratia Plena, according to the will of the town of Salerno, has been a convent for maidens and girls on the brink.

In 2003, updating its mission of hospitality, it became the address of the Salerno Youth Hostel, offering comfortable rooms ensuite.

Let us welcome you into this 17th century convent, nestled in one of the oldest streets of the historic town centre and still maintaining its original architectural structure while providing modern services.
Without forgetting the simple and essential style which defines us, we offer our guests all they need to enjoy a very pleasant stay: multilingual staff, 24hrs reception service, wireless connection, electronic keys, welcome corner and much more.

Our hostel have been the first in Italy to receive the Hi-Quality
Certification, issued by the world organization for our network, the International Youth Hostel Federation.

The building, situated in the heart of the historic town center, is just a few meters away from the sea and some of our rooms face the nearby 11th century Cathedral, with its Arab-Norman bell-tower.
The old Longobard bard town, with its maze of alleyways, the old churches and the noble families' palaces are all within walking distance, just as the promenade, perfect for a relaxing walk.
The wonderful beaches of the Amalfi Coast, with gems like Amalfi itself or Positano, are easily reachable thanks to comfortable landing places and another boat trip will take you to the 'not-to-be-missed' Isle of Capri.

The ancient history of this area is close at hand too, as quick journeys by bus and train will take our guests to discover Pompeii's archaeological site and the imposing Greek temples of Paestum.
Those who prefer staying in town can find little gems in the historic center, like the old 'Giardini della Minerva' botanical gardens, where the Medical School of Salerno started from, while the artisans' workshops and the goldsmith tradition of the old 'Via Mercanti' will surely tempt the shopping-lovers.
At night, it will be perfectly safe to take a walk through the narrow streets of the historic town center, throbbing with life thanks to the many bars, pubs and wine shops, where you can taste the delicious typical food of our area.

Otherwise, our visitors can enjoy peace and quiet in the hostel, relaxing in the cloister, lulled by the water flowing out of the 17th century fountain, or on the 4th floor sundeck, which affords a fantastic view of the historic center and the sea.

Above all, what we strive to offer our guests are good memories: of our hospitality, of our professional working team and of the magic and silent atmosphere that can be felt among the ancient walls of this building.
We believe in constant improvement and this is why we can assure our guests that they can trust us when they choose their next holiday.

We look forward to seeing you at Salerno! View House Rules

The staff was really nice. They provided locker facility even after we checked out which was really nice. The courtyard is really nice to have breakfast (which is to be paid for separately) and hang out. The complaint would be that the beds were not comfortable and to my surprise, there was no fan in the room, which was a big downside. Otherwise, for the price it was nice.

Great staff. Great location. Excellent breakfast for 3 Euro. The male dorm was very hot. Far hotter than outside. Was an uncomfortable sleep. Aside from that, great place!

Brilliant location in the centre of Salerno. The building itself is beautiful, but the dorm rooms are understandable basic, for the price. Very good value.

    Very Good

The hostel is located to a close proximity to the main restaurant strip, but the lack of kitchen, the auto-lights in the bathroom (last ~10mins) and distance to transport terminals leave much to be desired.

For the area, this hostel is a good value at 16 Euro/night. I have stayed here 3 times and twice there was a very loud concert 30 meters outside of my room and lasted until midnight. It was very difficult to sleep as the noise was impossible to ignore. Additionally, there is no kitchen at this hostel. On the plus side, the location is ideal and the value for the area is good. Add a kitchen and minimize the noise and I'd rate this location closer to a 9.0.

pretty good location in Salerno- close to the little lanes of shops and restaurants and beach. the place itself is okay, maybe better if you are booking a private room rather than a dorm. the dorm I stayed in had no air conditioned and the wifi didn’t reach the room. bathrooms were okay but could get messy through out the day. found the staff to be quite rude, especially when checking out. if there was another hostel in Salerno and you were doing dorms I would recommend staying somewhere else.

The area felt a bit unsafe on arrival, upon arriving staff the staff guidance was ok, more so just for the room and no guidance about things around the area. Entering the shared dorm it was dirty, the security cupboards door was loose and didn’t close properly. I’m a 30 year old male and didn’t feel at ease at all whatsoever in the accommodation. The place had an unpleasant feel, the bathroom was dirty, dorm room the same. I’d paid for 3 nights and left after 1. Very unpleasant experience.

They don't let you go into the room after certain time on the night, so you must to come back early like a teenager. The room was horrible looks like a hospital, no lockers, just a wardrobe very unsafe.
