The Ballhaus Berlin Hostel really is one of a kind. We're set in a historic brick building that's home to the city's oldest ballroom. Built in 1905, the dancehall has original features from the 1930s and a spiral staircase leading up to the gallery bar. We make the most of the space with plenty of parties (think burlesque and cabaret) as well as live music from well-known DJs and bands. Order a stein or two of beer in one of Berlin's oldest pubs (it's under the same roof) and really get into the city's party mood. We've also got an outdoor terrace and sociable communal areas.

We're in the central Mitte district and you'll find museums, galleries and theatres nearby. The Naturkundemuseum (Natural History Museum) and Berlin Wall Memorial are both just a minute's walk away. Arriving by train? We're an 18-minute stroll from Berlin Central Station. From Berlin Tegel Airport, take bus 128 for 11 minutes to Kurt-Schumacher-Platz metro stop and change to line U6 for 11 minutes to Naturkundemuseum. For some epic nights out, the party district of Friedrichshain is 28 minutes away on tramline M10 – jump off at Frankfurter Tor.

Rooms and Dorms

In our clean mixed and female-only dorms, sheets are free and each bunk has a reading light and a power point. Offload your gear in a large locker and freshen up with a hot shower in the shared modern bathroom. If you haven't packed a towel, we have plenty for hire. You can grab a private twin, triple or quad room with an en-suite if you like to spread out.

Extras and activities

Wi-Fi's free in the common areas, as well as in all the rooms. Whatever time you arrive, you'll get a friendly welcome from staff at our 24-hour reception. Join us on a free walking tour to really get under the skin of the city – you can get cash from our ATM for souvenirs (and beers) along the way.

Good simple hostel with very clean bathrooms which was nice. Had a bit of an odd atmosphere but perfectly nice facilities and people. Good sturdy beds that didn’t creak when you climbed into them, but the lockers were very narrow so I had trouble getting my stuff into them. Would recommend but not if your traveling with a large suitcase and want to be able to lock it up. Hey

Great location above one of Berlin’s oldest bars and the facilities etc are good. Only bad point is that staff were quite rude to guests when they wanted to check out. During a shift change in the morning the staff were quite stressed out and impatient with 2 or 3 guests who were waiting to check out. One girl waiting said she had to checkout and leave quickly and the staff shouted ‘then why did you spend 20 minutes in the bathroom!’ As if this was relevant. Still I would recommend this place.

The location was good and the hostel was very clean, but some of the staff members weren't very friendly. It was also strange that we were asked to take the sheets off of our beds and bring them to reception when we checked out.

Was a nice place close to the centre of Berlin. Walking distance to all the main hotspots and train stns. Ideal for couples or more quiet travellers as party scene was on otherside. Everything all round was nice and good value for money it’s just shower and toilet had a bad odour.

Never had such a poor experience at a hostel. I woke up my second morning of being here covered in bed bug bites. I have never been bitten by bed bugs before. The staff acted like everything was fine, changed my bedding upon my request & when I asked them to wash my clothing, their reply was “sorry no English”. Around 7 pm I checked my email. I had received an email from them 2 hours prior, saying they would be canceling my booking- kicking me out. Solo female traveler kicked out at night. Wow.
