Their 'super nice, helpful and welcoming' and 'hard working' staff 'who go the extra mile' are frequently rated by our guests as one of the best features of the hostel, in the centre of the lively Temple Bar area. Their 24-hour reception and security means you're safe to enjoy Barnacles' free tours and pub crawls. The location is perfect if you are visiting for the pub atmosphere, which we certainly were! The rooms were basic but were very clean and bedding was changed daily. The staff were very helpful and accommodating, if you had any questions they were there to answer them and help. Would definitely book to stay here again, the value for money was great!

According to online articles and people’s comments, a new company has taken over Barnacles hostel and they are converting it into a hotel. It seems a great investment, the building is located in Temple Lane, right in the heart of Dublin, a focal point in the real estate market. In my view Barnacles holds a glorious past, but it appeared to me unreasonably deserted in winter midweek lately. Having seen the extent of the building works, I dare say they won’t have this issue. You reap what you sow.

    Very Good

Overall my stay with my friend was decent. Cheap accomadation. Beds were comfy. However the breakfast was of low selection on the first day and the second day there was no breakfast what so ever which was a bit if a joke. My mate found a pubic hair in his bed and the water was switched off on the second day which was not very ideal. The staff was sound and a lift to the airport was suffice. Location was perfect with a very good atmosphere outside of the hostel. Very expensive for buying beers

A few reasons this wasnt my favorite hostel: Place needed a serious deep clean. Floors had crumbs, trash and hair everywhere . Our room had an incredibly loud mechanical buzzing noise go off in the walls every thirty minutes and that continued through the night. There was no hand soap in our bathroom and the bathroom light was out. In the middle of the night the fire alarm went off and was turned off after a minute. Horrible experience. Wouldn't recommend.

The toilets would not flush in our 10-person dorm room and the shower door fell off on me while I was showering. The big glass door was not attached properly on the hinges and fell on top of me when I was showering.

Hostel was under renovations throughout the stay and was notified just under 24 hours prior that we would be in two single rooms (separate floors) instead of a dorm room. We weren’t able to cancel due to late notice, staff wasn’t pleasant, smelled of paint entire time we were there. Renovated private rooms with en-suite bathrooms are small but very modern. Did have one room that smelled of stagnant water and they obviously had a plug in smell to try to mask the smell. Location is great.

Worst hostel experience of my life; could not get out of Barnacles fast enough. Chose to stay here for location, friendly staff, & smaller dorms but could not have made a greater mistake. Rooms humid, construction w/o warning. Someone stole my phone & another guest's from under our pillows (I was in the bathroom, he was away too). Staff didn't help; couldn't be bothered. My own fault to leave items unattended, but Barnacles' to allow someone with false identification & no contact info to stay.
