Property Description

Welcome to Bassetto Guesthouse!

We are located in Certaldo, in the belly button of Tuscany, a beautiful region of vineyards, olive groves and medieval towns. This is the place where you will find a true taste of Tuscany and the 'bella vita' in an authentic XIVth century setting.
We are bringing Tuscany country living to the backpacking world. If you need a relaxing break from the busy cities, then we are the place for you!
At Bassetto you will find a home away from home, where you will be able to regather your thoughts while you relax next to our pool or swing the afternoon away in a hammock with a glass of wine in hand. In the evening you can take a stroll to the vineyards to watch the sunset over Certaldo Alto, our local medieval town, and at night you can sit in the garden watching the stars and chatting with your fellow guests while being surrounded by fireflies.
Bassetto Guesthouse was formerly a convent of Benedictine monks that was always open to pilgrims passing through. In 1998, our family reopened Bassetto Guesthouse to travellers, with the same notion of hospitality as the monks centuries ago. We wanted our guesthouse to be unique in terms of setting and location, a place you would want to return to and somewhere to relax from city life.
We accommodate everyone here, from couples and families in our private rooms and apartments, to the solo backpacker in our dorm style rooms. Our private rooms and dorms, are separated from each other across the yard, with their own separate kitchens and common areas.
Explore through landscapes sculpted by sunflowers, rolling hills and farms either on foot, bicycle, or horse. Day trips by train are easy from Certaldo so you can go exploring the big cities and see the splendours of Florence, Siena, and Pisa all of which are within an hour.
We organise and run a number of activities from a fresh pasta cooking class with a local chef, to day trips to San Gimignano, Lucca, Volterra, local waterfalls and of course wine tasting!
Bassetto Guesthouse will always make you feel like you won’t want to leave and with our friendly English speaking staff who are always able to help. We are situated in the perfect place to experience the real Tuscany. There is something for everyone here!

We offer a free pick up from Certaldo train station at 5pm (if booked 24 hours in advance and subject to availability) We also do a drop off at Certaldo station at 9:30am every morning (except Sunday when the drop off is at 9am)

Please note, due to a tourism levy in the region, we have to charge a 1€ per night, per person tax.

We look forward to seeing you in Certaldo. View House Rules

You need to stay here !! It’s the most amazing hostel, it’s great for solo travellers as it’s such a social hostel and you will meet the most amazing people, they put on trips everyday, the trip to the waterfalls was amazing. And the location meant I could do day trips to Florence and Siena. The staff are amazing and fun to socialise with, especially Fede! Come prepared with food as it’s a 20 minute walk to the grocery shop, and bring bug spray I got eaten alive. I love this place and will be returning in t

Bassetto Guesthouse was amazing! Very good atmosphere and good facilities. We rented bikes for one evening so the further location wasn’t a problem at all 😊

One of the best hostels i’ve been to. I don’t think i’ve ever met a better bunch of travellers. It’s the kind of place that naturally attracts adventurous individuals. The staff working there become like family. They go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. Plenty of daytime and night time activities also on offer. If you are bold and enjoy a rustic setting, then you simply have to visit Bassetto. Grazie Nick, Stan, Fede and Veronica!

This place is amazing get away from the cities and sightseeing. The vibes are great and you will definitely meet some amazing people. We went cliff jumping off the nearby waterfalls and it has been one of my favourite thing this trip. Apparently management has changed recently and it is apparent that the current manager is frantic trying to make improvements on the property. This unfortunately caused him to tell people they could not get rides to/from the train station as the car was “totalled”… after askin

Had a lovely stay at this hostel, everyone was super friendly. It has definitely been the most sociable hostel I have stayed in. The staff arrange social events or excursions every day and it was a great place to meet new people who are doing similar trips.

This place was such great value for money, met amazing people and loved tuning out by the pool, in the hammocks, and being in a stunning location. Make sure to take day trips to nearby towns and to the waterfall. Downsides: if you cannot get a lift from the station the walk is brutal! - extremely hot at night in the dorms, could do with fan or AC - everyone was eaten alive by mosquitos- BRING SPRAY!! - remember to bring groceries with you to last your stay, the nearest shop is a long walk

The property is cute and provides a nice peaceful atmosphere, if you want to tune out is probably the place for you, but make sure to purchase groceries in advance because anything is farther than a 20 min walk. That being said you can organize very cool group activities with the staff and have an amazing time. Just keep in mind that it's in the middle of a very pretty nowhere.
