Property Description

Welcome to Bassetto Guesthouse!

We are located in Certaldo, in the belly button of Tuscany, a beautiful region of vineyards, olive groves and medieval towns. This is the place where you will find a true taste of Tuscany and the 'bella vita' in an authentic XIVth century setting.
We are bringing Tuscany country living to the backpacking world. If you need a relaxing break from the busy cities, then we are the place for you. At Bassetto, you will be able to regather your thoughts while you relax next to our pool or swing the afternoon away in a hammock with a glass of wine in hand and then at night, you can take a walk through a garden while being surrounded by fireflies.
Bassetto Guesthouse was formerly a convent of Benedictine monks that was always open to pilgrims passing through. In 1998, our family opened Bassetto Guesthouse again to travellers with the same notion of hospitality as the monks centuries ago. We wanted our guesthouse to be unique in terms of setting and location, a place you would want to return to and somewhere to relax from city life.
We accommodate everyone here, from the lovers on their honeymoon in our private rooms to the solo backpacker in our dorm style rooms. Our private rooms and dorms, are separated from each other across the yard, with their own both kitchens and common areas.
Explore through landscapes sculpted by sunflowers, rolling hills and farms either on foot, bicycle, and horse. Day trips by train are easy from Certaldo to go exploring the big cities to see the splendours of Florence, Siena, Pisa which are mostly an hour away.
We organise and run a number of activities from a fresh pasta cooking class with a local chef to day trips to San Gimignano and wine tour. When the weather is amazing, we can even take you out to Pisa, Lucca and the beach for a day.
Bassetto Guesthouse will always make you feel like you won’t want to leave and with our friendly English speaking staff who are always able to help. We are situated in the perfect place to experience the real Tuscany.

There is something for everyone here!

We also offer a free pick up (subject to availability, and excluding Thursday) at 5pm, and drop off (9:30am, except Sunday when the drop off is at 9am) service to Certaldo train station. More details will be sent to you in the confirmation email.

Please note, due to a tourism levy in the region, we have to charge a 1€ per night, per person tax.

We look forward to seeing you in Certaldo. View House Rules

One of my favorite hostel experiences ever. It’s out of Florence by about an hour, easy to get there by train, easier by car. If you’re in Florence I highly recommend staying here. Do the pasta class. It’s a blast and informative, and you’ll drink lots of wine. There isn’t AC, so it can get warm, but it’s not the end of the world. Really cool atmosphere and friendly people staying here. Lots of good recommendations by the staff. Jo you’re a great host! Looking forward to coming back someday.

If you plan on going to Florence, you should set aside a couple of days if not more at Bassetto. This is where you will get the small Tuscan town experience and this is the best place to stay. Absolutely gorgeous and best staff ever. This place becomes your home away from home and is really an experience you shouldn't miss out on. Yes there are mosquitos -- It's Tuscany; Bassetto provides you with bug spray so you can keep them away! I will be back!

Great place. Away from bustle of the city but close enough to take the train and visit for a day. Jo the manager is lovely, and the whole atmosphere is great.

This hostel is absolutely lovely. Jo goes above and beyond to make everyone feel at home - from remembering everyone’s names to helping out with everything. The pool was great for when it was super hot out and the room was clean and beautiful. We will definitely be back!

BGH, a charming monastery, run by cycles of travelers who fall in love. A winery later, and now hostel/community. Some people come and go, as it's not their thing, while I--and nearly all others--extended and/or upgraded. I went from the renovated stables to a quaint room in the old family house (now employees mostly). We toured a local medieval city, San Gimignano, before a local wine tasting with new friends. Next day a surreal pasta class, eaten on the winery patio at sunset. I will return.

Had a great few days here! Jo and her team are really friendly! Met some excellent fellow travellers, and drank far to much wine! The hammocks were a perfect place to relax in the afternoon :) would definitely recommend if you are looking for a place to socialise and let your hair down for a few days.

I had a wonderful few days at Bassetto Guesthouse, it was a memorable stay! Jo and the staff are amazing, on arrival showing you what’s around the town and everything you need to know, as well as always there to help out if needed. The atmosphere is great, perfect for any solo travellers! It’s so easy to meet people and get involved. I highly recommend the pasta class, this was one of the highlights of my stay.

The location and grounds of this guesthouse are amazing, but we did not have a very good time here at all. We got eaten by bugs in our beds all night. There were people partying all night (like, until 5 am) and all of the rooms are open to the outside air and to each other so it was soooo loud. It was also extremely hot and there wasn’t even a fan. Staff were really great though.
