Property Description

Welcome to Bassetto Guesthouse!

We are located in Certaldo, in the belly button of Tuscany, a beautiful region of vineyards, olive groves and medieval towns. This is the place where you will find a true taste of Tuscany and the 'bella vita' in an authentic XIVth century setting.
We are bringing Tuscany country living to the backpacking world. If you need a relaxing break from the busy cities, then we are the place for you. At Bassetto, you will be able to regather your thoughts while you relax next to our pool or swing the afternoon away in a hammock with a glass of wine in hand and then at night, you can take a walk through a garden while being surrounded by fireflies.
Bassetto Guesthouse was formerly a convent of Benedictine monks that was always open to pilgrims passing through. In 1998, our family opened Bassetto Guesthouse again to travellers with the same notion of hospitality as the monks centuries ago. We wanted our guesthouse to be unique in terms of setting and location, a place you would want to return to and somewhere to relax from city life.
We accommodate everyone here, from the lovers on their honeymoon in our private rooms to the solo backpacker in our dorm style rooms. Our private rooms and dorms, are separated from each other across the yard, with their own both kitchens and common areas.
Explore through landscapes sculpted by sunflowers, rolling hills and farms either on foot, bicycle, and horse. Day trips by train are easy from Certaldo to go exploring the big cities to see the splendours of Florence, Siena, Pisa which are mostly an hour away.
We organise and run a number of activities from a fresh pasta cooking class with a local chef to day trips to San Gimignano and wine tour. When the weather is amazing, we can even take you out to Pisa, Lucca and the beach for a day.
Bassetto Guesthouse will always make you feel like you won’t want to leave and with our friendly English speaking staff who are always able to help. We are situated in the perfect place to experience the real Tuscany.

There is something for everyone here!

We also offer a free pick up (subject to availability, and excluding Thursday) at 5pm, and drop off (9:30am, except Sunday when the drop off is at 9am) service to Certaldo train station. More details will be sent to you in the confirmation email.

Please note, due to a tourism levy in the region, we have to charge a 1€ per night, per person tax.

We look forward to seeing you in Certaldo. View House Rules

This is by far the BEST hostel I have ever stayed at. Jo is AMAZING! The vibe here is so inclusive and welcoming, it truly felt like a home away from home and I never want to leave! Thank you to Alyssa, Connor, and Jo for such an unforgettable experience. Everyone needs to stay here, it’s a true Tuscan experience with service unlike anything else. Cannot wait to come back!

Amazing Italian experience - loved the pasta class and wine tour (both are a must!!). Jo and Connor were great, very accommodating and got into the thick of socialising. Would very much recommend this place to anyone! Worth the trip out to certaldo from Florence.

Amazing hostel with lovely staff and people. I made many friends while staying here and it was a perfect break from the big cities. Pasta making was so much fun and definitely explore certaldo as it is a beautiful old town. Jo was an amazing host who was such fun to be around and made everyone feel welcome. My only advice is follow the directions on the welcome email and don't use Google maps to get there, Google will get you lost

I would die in this hostel and be happy. Supposed to spend 4 nights here but looks like I’ll be here for weeks at this point. Jo gives a piece of herself to every person who walks into her family. Everything is PERFECT. Read the description people... you get exactly what it says. Resident eye-candy Connor is a cleaning maniac so you’ll find nothing to complain about. If you do... perhaps a 5 star hotel is more your speed? LOVE IT HERE. TRUST ME. DONT BE LAME... BOOK BASSETTO

I absolutely loved my stay here. It is close to a medieval town centre which is quite accessible. The manager & staff are 10/10 personality-wise & try to involve everyone in some incredible activities. I enjoyed taking a pasta class, an excursion to another village & a wine tasting at a winery where we saw the harvest. Jo puts in a great amount of effort to make things go well for her guests. It was a very unique experience for me. Very off the tourist trail, if that’s what you are into.

One of the best hostels I've stayed in so far. Jo was brilliant at organising the place and including everyone, creating a very nice atmosphere indeed. It's very easy to meet people, we sat outside in the evenings, sharing stories and laughing till late, the place is close to places like San Gimignano, Siena, Pisa or Florence and day trips are very easy. Definitely a very nice rural hostel with beautiful buildings and a very mixed crowd of travellers. Would return for sure

Cannot day enough good things about Bassetto-Calcinaia Guesthouse. The owner knows everyone’s name immediately and her and staff make the place feel like home - thank you! The town of Certaldo is fairly small with few tourists, which is exactly what I wanted, and there are still plenty of places for food and drink open late. The dorm doors don’t have locks on them, which never felt unsafe in this small town and with the travelers that were there, but may make others uncomfortable.

Great hostel overall! Jo was so helpful and the wine tasting was exactly what we wanted. Super relaxed atmosphere and a good place to spend a few days when travelling. Ping pong table was a plus. No lockers or locking or your door so bring a baggage lock. Also wifi can’t reach rooms.
