#Ihatestandard

A journey does not begin at the gate, on the platform of the train or when you get into the car. It starts the moment you begin fantasizing about it. When you're obsessively looking at a point on the map, while you read as much as you can about a destination on the internet , consulting books, guides even chatting with other travelers or natives about that dreamed-of place, you're actually on your way.

If for whatever reason your way passes through Madrid, Bastardo is your destination. We aren't a hotel, we aren't a bar, we aren't a creating space. We are all of that and so much more. We avoid pureness. Bastardo is a meeting point for visitors and locals in the city centre, between Malasaña and Chueca. A cultural laboratory always opened to the latest trends. An ecosystem created for your enjoyment where you can enjoy a concert, a screening of an avant-garde film, watch an exhibition, chat while having a drink and seeing the rooftops of Madrid in the background, share a good meal with friends and, of course, stay. In short, Bastardo is a watchtower from which to conquer this chaotic, mestizo, vibrant and hospitable city. Own it, it's easy.

We know that no two trips are the same. That's why we have options that will adapt to any needs or budgets: private or shared rooms, for those who travel alone, for couples, for groups, for families, with or without a terrace. Always with an exquisite design and special care for small details. Patti Smith, Luis Buñuel, Divine, Emiliano Zapata, Marie Curie, Confucius, Frida Kalho... each of our rooms pays tribute to characters who have gone off the beaten path, pioneers who have had the audacity to think and live differently. Bastard attitude.

But enough introductions. We'll have time to get to know each other, right?

Welcome to Bastardo.

    Superb

Amazing location. They've got a bar downstairs and a restaurant. The elevator situation was a little weird having to use a QR code to go up to your room instead of a normal type key, but thats ok.

Location was amazing, hostel was also really nice ! The only problem is rooms are a bit cold and the space is very small for 4 people with bags.

Good vibe, great staff. Good welcome and seamless check in and check out. Clean and comfortable. Double room spacious but quite dark and could do with a spruce up as slightly tatty in places. Would recommend and would stay again.

Great location, good and clean rooms. The shared facilities were, sometimes, not that clean (e.g. bathroom downstairs). We were very kindly welcomed, but the other staff wasn't that friendly.

    Fabulous

My stay was fine though the atmosphere was a little weird. The hallways were very dark and you needed a QR code to use the elevator and enter your room, couldn't leave my phone in my room to charge while I ate breakfast haha. Also masks were required in the hostel but lots of people in the bar/restaurant downstairs weren't wearing them obviously. I know it's tough to make everyone feel safe in the pandemic but the current rules are illogical.

    Very Good

Rooms are great. Even though mine was a 4 person dorm, the quarters felt like a 2 person room. The layout of the room allows for some privacy. It's very clean and relatively new. Very Corona-safe with almost everything contactless, using QR codes to gain access. The restaurant, Limbo, is really good - try the Brisket sandwich. Location is really great too. The staff weren't the friendliest or most helpful, it lacks personality and there's no real common area to connect with other travellers.

Great location and comfortble beds. The kitchen has only a microwave, a boiler and a fridge. You can't cook there. The toillets near the Kitchen were always filthy and smelly. The staff was friendly at the check in. The room is okay, could have less design and more functionality. It is a great place to go with other people. The price was insane, x 4 times because of the long weekend, but it was like that in every hostel.

The location is good, but the hostel itself has a really weird design. It's annoying that you have to scan your phone every time you use the elevator. The whole design seemed to be to look cool but comfort was not the focus. The staff are very nice, though.

Horrible experience. Absolutely ruined my New Years Eve/trip. The door to the room was able to be opened by pushing hard. (No key necessary.) I had asked the greeter to check it. He said it was impossible to be opened without a QR code. Turned out I confirmed it a few days later. My security was compromised. When I got back to the room there was blood in the sink and in the trash. I was told it was the maintenance person. It looked bad to me. Stay somewhere else. I don’t trust this place.
