Property Description

The Youth Hostel in Agerola (San Lazzaro), 650m above the Amalfi coast, was one of the first A.I.G. Hostels to open in Italy. Since 1949 it has occupied the original stables of the gatehouse to the long gone Castel Avitabile (1791-1850).

The building itself is of historic interest as it is a Protected Building. Only the inside has been renovated, creating the Hostel and the Guest Rooms (2008), both of which have full bathroom facilities, living areas and lavish kitchens. The main Piazza and bus stop are directly in front of the building and behind and to the sides is the Campsite, with four large, grassy, shaded zones, fully equipped for tents or campervans.

Agerola is a dream-like location. Close enough for day trips to the Amalfi coast, Capri and Pompei, Positano and Sorrento and yet secluded and isolated, thus offering privacy and a really healthy look at how life has gone on in southern Italy for hundreds of years.

Though a small town, it is relatively spread out, offering the most incredible views down to the sparkling, clear-blue sea lapping at the Amalfi coastline, 650m directly below. Or you might prefer the surrounding mountains, rising to almost 1400m. Walks, trails, hikes and climbs are all a must for the more adventurous, but the friendliness of the people, traditional cooking and products as well as the relaxed lifestyle will transfix you in no time and have you wishing you could stay forever.

I had such a wonderful time here that I stayed an extra night! The building is beautiful and includes a spacious kitchen. It is at the center of San Lazzaro right by the bus stop. The staff was all very friendly and helpful. I can't wait to come back!

I would have stayed here forever if I could have, and extended my stay as long as I was able to! The staff are so so lovely, know everything about the area, have maps for all the local hikes which you can start from Agerola - pathway of the gods, 3000 steps ect. Upgraded us for free to a private cabin because they were empty otherwise during our stay. Kitchen facilities and common room are really great, and located literally right at the bus stop!

Rarely have experienced such friendly, down to earth and helpful hosts as I had at Beato Solitudo. The site itself offered many different options: camping, bungalows, hotel or hostel you can rough it or not. The town of Agerola is charming. Make sure you dine at Leonardo’s where you’ll find Enzo who excels in his hospitality and knowledge of the area. Food here is GREAT! The bus leaves from right outside the site and as I mentioned the owners are so helpful and lovely with info on everything.

Our stay was fantastic. The hosts were incredibly hospitable. They made sure we were comfortable and went out of their way to make sure we could get around and find the places we wanted to see. The breakfast was awesome with fresh squeezed orange juice eggs, etc We stayed a week and were sad to leave. We,ll be back! Loved it!

A lovely place to stay that’s not as touristy Owners friendly + helpful Buses to get here however are a pain (you have to line up for crowded bus otherwise wait another 2hrs) Beds/bathroom were clean and comfortable, our own fridge/kettle were great, however girls on the floor above us were very loud late at night so be prepared for noise Also double check most recent bus schedules! Day we left we relied on timetable Paolo gave us to get to airport but it was incorrect and we had to get a taxi

Awesome hostel in a fabulous little town nestled away from all the expensive prices along the amalfi coast. Only downside is the bus services in amalfi are appauling so if youre not organised you could end up having to take a cab home which will cost a dime. Facilities are great and staff are so lovely and willing to help with everything. Great hostel location in terms of the 2 famous hikes in amalfi as you can do them both straight from the hostel (only problem is getting back).

Very good place. It was clean and we stayed in a private room instead of shared room, although we paid for shared. Unfortunately the place was very far from Amalfi, although there's a bus that you can take, the latest bus is at 9pm. Also the trip in the bus made me motion sick.

I had a great time at Beata! Staff were really friendly and gave great advice/plans. It was super easy to get to with the bus- it literally stops outside the building! Its located close to the start of the 'Gods Walk' trail and a 40-minute bus ride down to the Amalfi coast. The dorms are on the top floor which you can only access through a tight spiral staircase- be prepared if you have large luggage! The kitchen was huge but not very clean- a lot of people had left dirty plates in the sink!
