Lovely place run by a lovely family, feels very homely and the location is great, especially if you want to visit the museums and sights of Belem. Great terraces as well! It's a little hard to find as there is no sign on the building and the streets of Belem are a bit of a maze, so I guess don't do a me and try to find it in the dark with your phone out of battery...

It was right near Saint Jeronimos Monastery and the people where super kind. They even made us a bagged breakfast for the morning as we had to leave at six for the airport.

awesome location, very clean, accommodations are what you would expect for historic district, plenty of food, coffee, lots of hot water. wish for better pillows, blankets, wish there were more shower on second floor (additional on first floor), but it is a rustic building, and that just isn't how it goes.

Vera operates a good guesthouse. Always friendly and helpful with information. I was able to store my bag after I checked out and before I left the city. The beds were comfortable. The dorms and washrooms /shower area were all gender. For a stay in Belen it was a short walk down the hill to Monasterie do Jeronimos and Pasteis de Nata. I went to the bakery after 8 pm 2 night's - no lineups.

Our stay at Belem Hostel felt home. The housekeeper was very friendly and caring. Please notice that they could not speak english very well. And maybe it was coincidence.. but really every guest there was brazilian :D to sum up, everybody but we could speak portugese. After all, the people and the staff were friendly and open. I would recommend this place :)

    Good

The hostel took forever to find! There was good amount of parking for the rental car we had and it was definitely a safe area to leave it. Not an ideal location but about 10 minutes walking to some of the major attractions in Belem. Then just a 20 minute car ride into central Lisbon. The price was great for the private rooms. Though the beds and linens were clean, the bathrooms and walls were not. The bathroom was really gross. People of all ages (and children) stayed at the hostel.

Negative: The staff barely spoke english and we didn't really feel welcome there... One bathroom and a toilet couldn't be used and a couple of other things were broken or in construction. Also the process of payment was a bit strange, the hostel might not be officially registered... Also, there's no official sign at the outside of the house, letting you know its a hostel. Positive: More or less clean, room was well equipped and the breakfast is fine

This hostel charged us twice for the stay and was overall not as advertised. The description says you can pay by cash or card but upon arrival we were told only cash. Later I found out that our card had already been charged and we have not been able to get them to respond to refund money. They also tried to add the city tax on top of our price even though all taxes are included in the website fee. They advertise airport transfer but the hostel staff had no idea what we were talking about.

The reception lady spoke only Portuguese, despite the note that English is spoken. She couldn't find our reservation first, then tried to charge us the due amount in cash, although my card was already charged full amount (which is unusual). Luckily I didn't have enough cash. The room was cold, no radiator, only one electric plug, completely unlike the one at the photo. We decided to leave immediately and didn't spend a night there. Unfortunately, we couldn't get the refund because of the policy.
