Discover the beauty of the Basque country from the adults-only Bilbao Metropolitan Hostel in the heart of the city. Check in and rest up in an armchair in our air-conditioned communal lounge while you plan your stay with our free city maps. We know you’re going to want to upload snaps of Bilbao’s iconic architecture from the off, so Wi-Fi's free throughout.

You’ll find us right in the centre of Bilbao, just 100 metres from Zabalburu train station – that’s a 3-minute walk. Arriving at Abando station? You can reach us on foot in 10 minutes. From the airport, we’re an easy 20-minute taxi ride or you can hop on the Termibus to Plaza Moyúa – from there you can reach us in 12 minutes. Your tour of Bilbao’s architecture starts at the Guggenheim Museum, a 23-minute stroll away, before you get that shot on the Zubizuri Bridge. Keep the culture coming with a trip to the Museum of Fine Arts, before you stop to shop (and snack) in Casco Viejo.

Rooms and Dorms

Rest up for a day of art and architecture on your super comfy viscoelastic mattress – we like to make you feel at home, which is why linen is free too. Preferred to pack a couple more T-shirts than a towel? You can rent one at the front desk. All of our female-only and mixed dorms have lockers for your backpacks, plus bunks are fitted with reading lights for after-hours research.

Extras and activities

When you've worked up an appetite, cook a quick dinner or snack in our communal kitchen. We have microwaves and cutlery and self-catering means more euros for churros! We have a 24-hour reception so you can see Bilbao by night (and the early hours of the morning) too. If you've been travelling for weeks, months or years, use our on-site laundry facilities and freshen up before you continue your adventure.

Great environment and very accessible. I was able to rent a towel for a euro and buy a padlock for a euro.

The 6 bed dorm was plain but functional. The common space, after a few people filled it, was comfortable. The staff were the highlight of my stay: They were friendly and knowledgable.

The worst part was some of the sketchy people there. But ya get what you pay for. Good location. Good security. Good facilities. Comfy beds.

    Very Good

The Hostel is situated near to the Old Town(10 min), Train Station Abando (10min) and near to the Guggenheim (20min), but the area is rather sketchy and the entrance of the Hostel is scary as it is a dark alley next to weird shops etc. The Hostel itself is for the price you pay really good, they don't have a fully equipped kitchen but for my two nights stay it was completely ok, next to the hostel is a supermarket. Overall if you stay only two nights for the museums it's perfect.

Overall nice stay. The staff was very friendly. Someone peed on the floor in the bathroom (yuck! But part of staying in a hostel). When we went to use the one in the lobby instead, there was vomit on the toilet and the sink. Sheets and bed felt clean. Overall, it'ss a step above what you'd expect for 11€ a night.

Clean and close to the centre of the city, slightly dodgy area but largely ok. Hostel goers were well-coming, receptions were friendly when checking us in and for asking questions too. The major issue was that the receptionists and cleaners could enter the room whenever they liked whether you were changed or unchanged, asleep or awake which made me feel quite unsafe. On the last day we were late to check out and the receptionist barged into the room and yelled at us, not always a pleasant time.

Me and my friend arrived a bit later than expected because of a delayed flight , and there was no staff around. Luckily we were let in by other guests and started to try calling the number by the reception. We didn't get any answer and didn't know what to do. The sofa in the common room was already occupied by a man who was bleeding and had left bloody tissues on the table so we didn't want to stay. We decided to drag our bags to another hostel.
