Property Description

Bodhi Nava came to life when its founders, Bo and Ben, discovered a lovely house in a quiet little street at the foot of the Shwedagon Pagoda. Previously used as an old car workshop, its potential stood out to create a hostel and café reflecting the peaceful charm of Myanmar life in the heart of Yangon.

The name Bodhi Nava is intended to reflect the tranquility of this sacred area, as the Bodhi (Banyan) tree is where the Buddha attained enlightenment through meditation, and Nava is the number 9 in Pali - the ancient Buddhist language - representing the 9 attributes of the Buddha.

Bodhi Nava is the culmination of our inspirations, creating a space to relax and enjoy our distinctive home made menu designed to reflect our Burmese, Thai and Western influences. Everything we make is fresh and homemade, from frozen smoothie bowls, granola and baked bread, as well as freshly made Thai curries and Myanmar salads. Resting between the Shwedagon pagoda and Kandawgyi park, Bodhi Nava is only a short ride from the bustle of downtown, offering a perfect sanctuary to while away the hours with a coffee or one of our special juices.

Upstairs, our individually designed rooms cater to all travellers. We offer a double room with a private balcony offering perfect seclusion, or twin and shared rooms for friends or those looking to meet like-minded travellers. Guests who stay with us can enjoy a free coffee when you purchase our prepared breakfast of freshly baked bread with egg, granola and fruit salad.

We hope a stay at Bodhi Nava reflects the warmth and generosity of Myanmar culture loved by everyone who spends time in our country, short or long.

This place is lovely with a great location on a quiet side street just a stones throw from Shwedagon. However, it is a small place with limited facilities such as communal areas or chill out zones. The food and coffee were delicious, however, for the price payed per night you would maybe expect some more facilities or at least a free breakfast.

Very nice and clean hostel. The rooms have good air condidtion and the beds are good. I shared a room with one who left at 5am and one who had a skype interview at 6am, so was not I was not happy with that, but otherwise the rooms and bathroom are very good. The breakfast could be ordered from 09am, something I thought was a bit too late. Plus, neither the coffee machine or the breakfast was ready until near 9:30 when I was there. but - It's worth going there if it's just to have a coffee.

    Very Good

It’s beautifully decorated and very quiet. On the first floor there’s a cafe but it’s only open from 9-6. After six it’s awkward to sit down there, which is the only “common area”. They turn off the AC and the hostel employees take out their mattress pads to sleep on the floor. I saw a massive cockroach on the second floor hallway but felt it was otherwise clean. They can be accommodating if you push a little. First they said I couldn’t check in early but 10 mins later the guy let me.

Great location, really nice facilities, but it seemed like this was a new business venture for the cafe. There was not as much detailed help about what to do or where to go or booking in Yangon and around Myanmar. The staff was mostly distracted about serving the cafe patrons. I’d recommend having a separate desk for the hostel portion, specifically with a city map, and more understanding of what to recommend for travellers. Additionally, breakfast should be included or at least discounted.
