Overview

For a friendly and fun stay in the heart of Cork, you'll want to check out Bru Bar and Hostel. We're a sociable bunch ready to give you a warm Irish welcome. We have a pub on the ground floor so you won't have far to go to find the party. If you're staying in the hostel, we'll treat you to discounted drinks and a daily happy hour! You'll get Irish atmosphere in droves with live music seven nights a week, and you can sing for your pint at Open Mic Night every Monday. You'll get free breakfast in the morning, too, so you'll be energised for a day about town.

Location

You’ll find us in the busy St Luke’s neighbourhood amid restaurants, bars and cafés. The 18th century English market is only 11 minutes away on foot, so pick up some local ingredients to cook in our guest kitchen. The Summerhall North bus station is a 2-minute walk from us, so it's super simple to get to Cork Airport. The bus takes about 25 minutes, or you can hop in a taxi for 15.

Rooms and Dorms

Our rooms and dorms are airy and modern, and we clean them every day. Pick a private triple if you’ve got travelling companions, or go for a mixed or single-sex dorm for a cheap bunk amid new friends. Bed linen is included and each bed has a light so you can stay up late without disturbing your bunkmates. You can only access the rooms by card, and your gear will be just as safe in our coin-operated lockers.

Extras and activities

If you're a first timer to Cork and don't know where to start, we can help! Swing by our 24-hour reception to pick up a free city map and get insider tips. Prefer a night in? Stream movies and shows on our free Wi-Fi, play pool, have fun with the Wii or go old-school with a board game in our common room.

Brú bar & hostel was a lovely place to stay. I spent two weeks there along with a few other colleagues while we were looking for a house to rent. It was a very comfortable and enjoyable experience. The bar has plenty of great activities throughout the week (including some really brilliant music) and the staff were absolutely lovely and so helpful. The kitchen is excellent and very clean. I couldn't recommend this place any higher if you are looking for somewhere to stay in Cork city!

Cheap & cheerful. Walking distance to everything you would want to see in cork. Dorm room was very small but it was an entry level basic level room so the slightly more expensive option might be a better choice. Would stay again if I need short notice budget accommodation in Cork.

    Fabulous

The hostel staff were hit or miss. There was one gentleman who was friendly and always had the best suggestions, the others seems not super interested in us, and had a slightly affronted interaction with one member of staff. The bar had live music and cheap pints ever night, but the dining room upstairs was best for meeting people and there was the ability to sign into your Netflix. Free breakfast is just toast and cereal. Did not like the bathrooms, its a push shower and never was right temp.

    Very Good

Location of this hostel is great. The staff were very friendly. The beds were not comfy at all, rock solid. Mould was in the showers, which I didn’t even bother using as they only stay on for 10 seconds. It was my mistake to not book a female only room (was so much more expensive) however to have been placed in a room with 3 men I was a bit uncomfortable, seems maybe it could have been allocated a bit better.

Would NOT recommend for solo female travellers. This hostel is mainly used for displaced workers, mostly middle aged males. I did not feel safe throughout this trip. The common room had no atmosphere, the overall cleanliness of the place was questionable with it smelling of chlorine to cover up the mould/ musty damp smell. Bed was hard as nails. Showers were useless, only a press button that gave you five seconds of water with no temperature control. Would not stay again.

I ended up checking out early to move on with my trip because I was so uncomfortable. This was probably the sketchiest hostel I have stayed in throughout my time traveling. The bar downstairs is mostly full of older men. My room had a much older woman staying who did not seem to be entirely with it. Another woman I met said that the hostel staff warned her not to go out at night alone. The atmosphere was almost entirely anti-social.

Definitely not worth €50 for a dorm for 1 night. The lockers in the room are a joke The bed linen did not seem fresh. To top it off, the lady at the reception is unfriendly.
